Lyman Ray Tucker died Wednesday, May 25, 2016 of complications from congestive heart failure. He was born December 31, 1924, the third child of Rufus Joseph Tucker and Grace Waldrep Tucker. He grew up in Wynne, Arkansas. The family moved to Baytown, Texas, where Ray graduated from high school in 1942. He entered the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1943. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he briefly attended Texas Christian University. He obtained both his undergraduate and law degrees from The George Washington University.
Ray worked for several years in the oil and gas industry as a land man in Texas. He returned to West Memphis, Arkansas, where he owned and operated Mid-South Pecan Company with his father for many years. He later returned to Texas and resumed his career in the oil and gas business. In retirement, he returned to the West Memphis-Memphis area, where he lived until his death.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Rostica, and his children from previous marriages: Paula Tucker Richardson (Allen) of East Lansing, Michigan, Rae Lyn Tucker-Craft (Danny) of West Memphis and Ft. Worth, Texas, and David Alan Tucker (Tammy) of Friendswood and Joshua, Texas. He is also survived by five grandchildren (Abigail Richardson Livingston (Jacob), Mary Richardson, David Richardson, Alexa Rae Tucker and Matthew Tucker), three great-grandsons, several nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rufus Hugh Tucker, sister Hita Jo Tucker Pryor, and son Dale Gregory Tucker.
A graveside service was held Friday, June 3, Crittenden Memorial Park, Marion, Arkansas. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to Bellevue Baptist Church, 2000 Appling Road, Cordova, Tennessee, 38016. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis had charge of arrangements.
