Clyde Willis ''Sonny'' Johnston, 87, of Searcy, Arkansas, passed away on September 3, 2018, in his home from bone cancer.

Visitation will be held 6:00 pm to 8:00pm Thursday, September 6th at Roller Daniel Funeral Home in Searcy. Burial will be Friday at Potter's Cemetery in Lepanto, Arkansas at 1:00pm.

Clyde was born in Lepanto on November 19,1930 to the late James Henry (Bud) Johnston and Ida Priscilla McWhirter Johnston. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years and the mother of his children, Nora Jean Harvison Johnston, daughter Diane Johnston, brother Jack Johnston, and sisters, Maxine Hyde, Charline Sauder, Pauline Hall, and Peggy Overby.
Clyde is survived by his wife of 20 years, Laverne Hansler Johnston of Searcy, 4 children, Mike (Glenda) Johnston of Brookwood, AL; Jim (Kathy) Johnston of Searcy, AR; Willis (Kim) Johnston of Texarkana, AR and Paul (Deana) Johnston of Marion, AR.; 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Anabelle Mosher and Judy Manley both of Searcy, and many nieces and nephews.

Clyde (Sonny) grew up on the homestead just west of Lepanto. He graduated from Lepanto High School in 1948.

Clyde served his country with 12 years in the United States Airforce and completed his service toward retirement in the Arkansas National Guard. He also taught diesel-mechanics at the Delta Vocational Technical School in Marked Tree, Arkansas. While teaching there he also helped with the family farm. Later he worked as shop foreman for two farm equipment companies in Newport, AR area.

The family of Clyde Willis Johnston wishes to thank Arkansas Hospice for their dedication and devotion of compassionate care for our loved one. And a special thank you to our devoted care givers.
