Esther Marie Yingling

of Searcy, AR

January 15, 1921 - February 9, 2018

Surrounded by family, Esther Marie Yingling died February 9, 2018. Esther Marie was born January 15, 1921, and was the daughter of Charles Terrell and Cassie (Harris) Clay. She was a member of the College Church of Christ. Marie graduated from Shawnee High School in 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky, and from Harding College in 1942 with a degree in English and History. Marie married James Osco Yingling, Jr., on February 8, 1947. Preceding her in death were her husband James, parents and one brother, Charles Terrell Clay, Jr.

She is survived by her children Cassandra Meeks and husband Ray of Nashville, Tennessee; Angie Yeager and husband Sam of Franklin, Tennessee; James Clay Yingling of Pangburn; and Charlotte Bible and husband Steve of Marietta, Georgia; eight treasured grandchildren, Beth Meeks Garza (Robert), Andrew Meeks, Rob Yeager, Cassie Yeager, Chester Yeager (Katie), Emmaline Bible (Bryant), Hannah Bible, and Molly Bible; and six great grandchildren, Camilla, Charlotte, Cecila, and Catalina Garza, Corinne Yeager, and Effie Yeager.

Marie fought the good fight, finished the race and has now gone on to receive her eternal rewards. She loved her family fiercely and was an inspiration to all. She feared God not man, was a teacher with her whole heart, a friend to many, a helper of the helpless, an encourager for the wayward, had great style without a love of the mirror, and lived with confidence in who God made her to be and encouraged us to do the same. She was an example of a godly wife, mother, hospitable home-maker and so much more. What a grand 97 years!

For 31 years Marie taught school in Louisville, Kentucky, Jonesboro, Harrisburg, White County Central, Des Arc, Arkansas, Monroe, Louisiana, Memphis, Tennessee, and especially loved teaching high school history at Harding Academy in Searcy. She enjoyed teaching ladies Bible study classes, Harding basketball, reading, quilting, playing card games, and walking. She was active in Associated Women for Harding in Harrisburg, Arkansas, Monroe, Louisiana, and Searcy, Arkansas. One of her favorite projects was replacing the brick walkways going across the Harding campus. Marked by a gracious strength of character, Marie deeply loved God, His church and Word, her family, friends, and the Harding University community.

Visitation at 9:30 am and service at 11:00 am at College Church of Christ. Internment will be at Bethlehem Cemetery in Judsonia.
