Jean, I just learned of Bryan's passing in wee hours on December 15th. Much to late to have attended his services which I would have if weather would have cooperated. I am missing Bryan so much; so many questions I'd loved to have asked him. I tried telephoning you this morning and learned your phone number has been disconnected. And to your children and grandchildren, even though I never met you, you are in my prayers. My grandmother was a sister to Bryan's mother. I have known Bryan since back in 60's; then I married a former neighbor of Jean's parents. God Bless you and remember what your parents have taught you. Love to all, Judy and James Boyd

Bryan will be missed by the members of DAV Chapter 41 in large measure due to his concern and guidance freely offered for the benefit of all veterans in our community needing any type of assistance. He saw things black and white, not having time or patience for gray areas in life or politics. His advice and counsel has been invaluable to me in the DAV.

Grandpa,
You leave behind a huge gap in our family and will be greatly missed. You fought a long and hard battle against illness, and I am grateful that you are no longer in any pain. We all love you and Grandma so much. I think it is awesome that you and Grandma were married for almost 70 years - what a wonderful example that is!
Love,

No message can express our love for Bryan, Jean, Bryan Richard, Peg and Don.
Friends , neighbors, yet much more than that.
The thankfulness they expressed at all times was so touching.
We didn't know the grandchildren, but we say to them now, "What an awesome heritage you have been left."
Loving God, his family, his country was an attribute many do not ever accomplish.
Yes, we certainly enjoyed sharing catfish many times and hope to again with you Jean.
Conversations in the street shared from trivial things to giants we faced was comforting.

What a privilege to have known and called Bryan Howerton a friend.
You knew the minute you met him that he was special and a very rare individual. So humble and yet so proud. I could not believe when I first heard that he had served in 3 wars, I had never known or heard of anyone that had been able to say that. He truly loved his country, the only thing he loved more was his family and his God.
I only regret not knowing him better and spending more time with him but we'll fix that as we spend eternity together.
To his wonderful wife Jean and children how blessed you were to have had him as he was to
have you.
Praying God's Love and Comfort at this time of loss.

Dearest Bryan,

Words fail to express my gratitude to you for the noble example of your life well lived - your innumerable acts of honor, grace, courage and for your massive wisdom so generously shared. Forever will I cherish the memories and lessons learned while scaiing our genealogical brick walls together. Thank you for the lessons in discernment and persistence; for the legacy of knowledge you left with us. It was a great honor, Sir.

Jean and family, our hearts ache for you and the loss of such a wonderful presence in your daily lives. May the reunions taking place on the other side be of some comfort to you, and may you continue to be surrounded by your many loving friends and family members. We will be in Washington, DC during Bryan's services and will visit Arlington on Wednesday, in his honor. Our thoughts and prayers remain with you. God bless.

Yes, my Grandpa was a hero. He went above and beyond for the freedoms we all hold dear. He could fill a room with his presence, and then he would add his anecdote.
What I remember most about my Grandpa though was the time I spent curled up beside him in his big "Grandpa chair." Such special time that I don't think a lot of kids get today. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and I appreciate the humor of life as a result. He had a reverance for his ancestors, and I respect history and our great country as a result. He loved, cherished and respected my Grandma, his wife, for almost 70 years, and I strive to honor my marriage and family with such love and commitment as a result. Life gets busy and we don't take the time we should to tell those we love how special they are. I love you Grandpa! Thank you, for your love above all else. I can practically hear your belly laugh from Heaven!

Mr. Howerton:
I'm going to miss you very much. You have been such a source of strength and guidance to all of us.
Many good things will be said about you, as always. And you've earned them. But the proof of these words, is in the quality, and character of the family you've left behind. The values you've instilled in them are proof of your superior character, and your love of our country.
Thank you for your strength, and mentorship.
Thank you for risking your life for us in three wars.
Thank you for all those cold war years. Where you stood guard. And never let anything happen to us.
I promise you that I will continue to put Peg's safety, and well being ahead of my own.
I promise you that you will always be remembered, as a man who represented all that's best about America.

With Love and Respect:
Bill Kifer

I will always cherish your great stories of the incredible experiences you had in your fulfilling life. The way you told the tales of your life was as entertaining and captivating as the event itself. Even at a very young age, I remember you would start to tell a story and whatever was going on in the room would subside as all would listen with an eager ear. Your great laugh always accompanied by a perfectly timed "shoot" made the recollection that much more enjoyable. Aside from being a great narrator you made no apologies for what you stood for which seems to be lost in so many people these days. A patriotic, loyal, honest man who the world will miss but is better off having known.

Grandma,
I can only imagine how hard this is for you. I've been thinking of you everyday and can't wait to give you a big hug next week.

Love,
Your grandson-Adam
