James Glenn SheltonI am a Veteran.

of Kensett, AR

June 5, 1922 - February 25, 2012

Glenn Shelton, age 89, of Kensett died early Saturday morning after a long and extremely courageous battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Louise Smith Shelton; by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Brandy Shelton of Coal Hill, Arkansas and Jim and Lori Shelton of Searcy, Arkansas. He is also survived by his three precious granddaughters who were the delight of his life: Madison Shelton of Coal Hill and Sarah and Hannah Shelton of Searcy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Hazel Shelton, by two sisters, Ima Harrison and Dean Roberson, and one brother, Gerald Shelton. During his long life, he has also been preceded in death by a host of very close friends. He was a longtime member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ and for many years was extremely active in various ministries and works as long as his health allowed.
He was born on June 5, 1922 near Pangburn, Arkansas. He was a graduate of Kensett High School and served his country as a machinist mate in the United States Coast Guard during World War II aboard the USS Joseph T. Dickman. The ship ferried troops between Honolulu and Manila. In 1950 he began a career with Arkansas Power and Light as a distribution designer that would last for thirty-five years, retiring in 1985. He was also a longtime member of the Kensett School Board and helped to oversee the formation and development of the Riverview School System as a member of that board. He was extremely active in his retirement, engaging in activities ranging from farming, automobile painting, home building and remodeling, gardening, and his love of horses. In 1996, at the age of seventy-four, he opened Shelton Family Restaurant in Kensett. The establishment quickly became a very popular local favorite until it was destroyed by a tornado in 2001.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday February 27, 2012 at Roller Daniel Funeral Home in Searcy. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday February 28, 2012 @ Roller-Daniel Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at White County Memorial Gardens.
He will be greatly missed.

Louise and family-
It was very sad to hear of the death of Glenn. Glenn was in my customer service department when I worked in Searcy from 1978 to 1985. He was a great friend and very good employee. Although he is no longer with us his memories will last forever. May God bless and keep you during this time of loss. We can all feel confident that he is now in a better place.

Dear Family of Glenn, I am Dick Homard who was born in Kensett in 1927 and knew Glenn for many years. I was a Junior Engineer in Searcy after I got out of the Navy. Glenn and I went to North East Arkansas many times with AP&L. I do not remember if Louise Smith was the friend he would stop to see when we were up there. I went bird hunting with Glenn several times. I remember Ima Dean but did not know that she had passed away. My Uncle, Wilbur Mills really liked to eat at Glenn's restraunt before it was blown away. I married Margie Brown who taught in the Kensett schools after the War. I retired from Entergy Arkansas in 1992 and have lived in Little Rock since 1965. Margie and I wish the best for all of the family. Sincerely, R. B. "Dick" Homard.
