Malcolm "Mackie" Ray Brooks Sr.

of Pendleton, SC

August 6, 1971 - March 23, 2017

MALCOLM RAY BROOKS Sr. was born August 6, 1971 to Joe and Bernice Brooks Jr. of Osceola, AR. He went on to be with his Heavenly Father on the evening of March 23, 2017. Malcolm accepted Christ at an early age at St John MB Church under the leadership of Pastor Robert Johnson. He was also a part of his family's gospel singing group, The Heavenly Angels. Malcolm attended Osceola High School and graduated in 1990. He met the love of his life, Nerissa Veronica McDuffie, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL while they were young. It was love at first sight. He promised her that he would come back to get her, and he kept his promise. Four years later they were united in Holy Matrimony on July 1, 1992. He believed Proverbs 18:22 "He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.'' She continued to be his queen and next to God he was her king and hero. Their children and grandchildren were their heartbeat and focus. Malcolm continued his life as a young disciple of Jesus Christ working with the youth ministry at Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Joe Brooks Jr. He later joined Loving Jesus Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Robert Parnell, where he served as Youth Pastor and later accepted the call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He soon moved to Jonesboro, AR, where he continued to support his family and serve at Life Changing Outreach Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Sammy Nelson. Malcolm had many gifts and talents. He was a coach, personal trainer, and the force behind his children as well as others, pushing them all to excel academically and athletically. He also volunteered throughout his communities. He was a mentor and father figure to many, especially his nieces and nephews. Malcolm and his family traveled to different states before settling in South Carolina where he later attended Tri County Community College in Anderson, SC. Through his illness, he continued to be an inspiration to many, all while remaining a man of faith and staying on fire for the Lord. Mac was an impeccable man of great substance. He was handsome, had an unforgettable smile along with his bubbly personality. Being a man full of life, he enjoyed making people laugh. He was the jokester and prankster (ironically today is April Fool's Day). Even if his jokes were not funny, he had a few people that would laugh like he was a professional comedian (they know who they are). His family meant the world to him and always anticipated his performance. His encouragement, joyful spirit and extended acts of kindness will live on in our hearts and memories. Malcolm was preceded in death by his two sisters Ruthie Jeanette Brooks (Jan 1977) and Audrey Cassandra Brooks (Sept 1988). He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Nerissa Brooks (Goodie) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, two daughters Jarissa Brooks and Nashaundra Brooks, three sons Malcolm Brooks Jr, Zacchaeous Brooks, Malchaeous Brooks, two granddaughters Jamyha Mathis and Madycen Brooks, one grandson Corey Rouson; his father and mother Joe and Bernice Brooks Jr., father and mother-in-law Jimmy and Mayetta McDuffie, three brothers Sammy Nelson (Niki), Jesse Brooks (Linda), Joe Brooks III, six sisters Debra Brooks, Gladys Richardson (Edward), Jacqueline Love (Albert), Lahoma Beal (William), Shiretta Brooks, Varonda Brooks, brother and sister-in-law Octavius and Yolanda McDuffie, and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Hello Family,
Just want to give my sincere thoughts and prayers for this Great person and friend. Life leads us in many directions, but love keeps us grounded. Even though I had not talked to Mac in years, I still consider him as family. When I heard about his passing it shook my soul as if I had lost a close family member. All I could think about was our childhood memories of playing football and baseball on Shirley Drive and Pauline street. I only have Fun Loving memories of Mac!! Rest on brother until we meet again.

Dear Nerissa, Zach and VonRay: My heart is breaking for you all.I would like to have known Malcolm before I did, when Nerissa had problems and needed surgery. I loved leaving the office in the evening and rapping on his car window when he was waiting to pick Nerissa up. I worried over Mr. VonRay (sorry if I have misspelled your name) who remained calm in the face of a father who was ill and a mother who needed surgery. Mr. Zach, you are a great success story yet to be finished. You are the good people. The salt of the earth. Love and peace to all including family I have not met. God bless and keep you.
