July 9, 1930 - July 1, 2018

Alma Lee Violet Shipman Sutterfield passed away peacefully July1, 2018 in Fayetteville, AR. She was born in Fifty-Six, AR on July 9, 1930 to William Jasper and Lillie Balentine Shipman.

Alma Lee graduated from Mountain View High School in 1948 and soon met the love of her life, Frank Sutterfield, a handsome soldier who was on leave from the army. After one date and many letters, they married when he returned from Korea in 1952. Their marriage would last 66 years.

After working briefly in the airplane plants in Wichita, KS, they moved to Fayetteville for Frank to attend U of A. Their son, Terry, was born one year later. They then moved to Little Rock for Frank to attend pharmacy school. In 1960 they moved to Searcy, AR where Frank worked as a pharmacist for Stotts' Drugstore. They opened Sutterfield Pharmacy in Morrilton in 1964 where Alma Lee was actively involved in the management of the pharmacy. They retired to Stone County, or home as they called it, in 1987 then returned to Fayetteville in 2015 to be near family where they developed another community of friends at Arkanshire Independent Living.

Alma Lee loved to travel and was proud that she accomplished her goal of visiting all 50 states in her lifetime. After moving to Stone County, she became an employee of the Ozark Folk Center. She loved working with her many friends there and meeting visitors from all over the world and greeting them all with a smile. She spent years volunteering for the Stone County Medical Center Auxiliary and the American Cancer Society and was a supporter of Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Alma Lee was a life-long Baptist and a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Morrilton for many years then Fifty-Six Missionary Baptist Church in Fifty-Six.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Zelnora Shipman, Iva McCook and Ina Pendergraft and brothers Verle, Merle, Buster and Jewel Shipman. Alma Lee is survived by her husband, Frank, son Terry (Kathy) of Fayetteville and two sisters, Meladean Petersen and Betty Hampton, both of Mountain View.

Service will be Friday, July 6 at 2:00 pm at Fifty-Six Missionary Baptist Church with visitation from 1-2 pm. Burial at Fifty-Six Cemetery.

I can only offer my prayers for comfort for the loss of this wonderful sweet lady. I will miss seeing her smiling face and she was so friendly. She was a cousin of Ronnie's and a dear friend of both of us.
