of Mountain View, AR
November 2, 1924 - January 3, 2016
Lillian Betty (Peebler) Mitchell, known to her friends and family as Betty and to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (and many others in the community) as ''Granny Goose'', passed from this life on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Stone County Medical Center at the age of 91.
Born November 2, 1924 in Glendale, California, to parents Byron and Ethel Peebler she married Stone County native AlvyMitchell who had gone to California to find work. Her parents had run a laundry in Indio for several years and Betty and Alvy opened a laundry business in their home shortly after becoming married. They moved back to
Stone County in the mid-1960s. She gave birth to four children Steve, Nancy, Joyce and Cathy. After her divorce from Alvy in 1982, she began accumulating rental property in and around Mountain View. At one time or other, probably most everyone in town has rented a house or storage unit from her.
Betty was well known in the community and was referred to by many as the ''hardest working woman I've ever seen''. Until her recent illness took its toll on her health, she could be seen around town mowing the lawn at one of her properties or climbing onto the roof of one of her houses to make needed repairs. It
seemed that there was nothing that she couldn't do, or at least attempt, all through her 80s and was very active even into her 90s. She refused to retire, stating that she would when she got old enough. Her motto was, ''Don't worry, be happy'' and for many years the personalized tag on her vehicle read ''RUHAPPY''. She often encouraged her family to ''keep smiling''.
She leaves behind a loving family of four children, Steve Mitchell, Nancy Decker and husband Hinkle, Joyce Wait and husband Jim, and Cathy McCarn and husband Jim. She had 14 grand-children and 33 great-grandchildren. Her long-time assistant Jerry Partee had helped her with the repair and maintenance of many houses through the years and was like a member of the family. She was preceded in death by her parents Byron and Ethel Peebler, grand-daughter Tracy Cheyanne (Mitchell) LaValle, sisters Helen, Lena, Frances and Melba and brothers Gerald and Ned Peebler.
Visitation will be at Roller - Crouch Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 1:00PM and graveside services will follow at Flatwoods Cemetery at 2:00PM.

Betty has always been an inspiration to me. I have never met anyone quite like her. Not only her work ethic but her disposition. She always greeted me with a friendly smile and always took time to have a great conversation even though she was probably the busiest woman in town. I have been away for almost two years but she is someone I will never forget and I think of often. What a wonderful life she has led!

Mrs. Betty was a good woman and I have great respect for her. Betty will be greatly missed I'm sure by family. These days it is hard to find an example of what a person with character looks like. Mrs. Betty is that example and when I think of what Mtn.View is and was , well Mrs. Betty is it. God Bless each family member.
I am so sorry for you guys lose. But she lived a full life and if anyone watched this woman work, they will understand how to get things done. I have never, except for my grandmother ever seen someone like her. God, got an angel.
I always admired Betty for her attitude about life and work. I like her thoughts about retiring when you get old. Age is a state of mind for some, and a reason to give up for others. I never saw Betty give up on anything and age was not a stumbling block for her. She will be missed in the community. Faye Farris

Betty will be greatly missed. We really admired her stamina and great attitude regarding life. We are glad to have known her over the years.
My parents and I've both rented from Mrs. Betty. Couldn't ask for a better landlord. She was one in a million. Now she may have some rest. Who knows she may be building heaven right along side Jesus! <3
An incredible woman. An Icon and legend. No one else like her. Never saw her without a smile. She will be missed.
