Rubin E. Barnes, age 73, of Yucca Valley, CA passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for and loved on March 14, 2015 in Rancho Mirage, CA. He was born to Fount and Vera Barnes on January 8, 1942 in Mountain View, Arkansas. He was an active part of the class of 1961 of Mountain View High School and enjoyed playing in a band during his high school years. He grew up attending the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas. After graduating high school, he moved to Thermal, CA where he worked in construction. In 1963, he met and married his beautiful bride Betty Wade. Together, they lived in the Coachella Valley for close to 40 years where they adopted and raised their children Craig and Jennifer. In 1964, Rubin began his career as a route salesman. He worked for Coca Cola, Laura Scudders, and Hostess (in which he retired from in the year 2000). In 1967-1969, he served in the United Sates Army and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was a man of faith who cherished his relationship with Christ. He enjoyed serving with First Baptist Church in Coachella, Central Baptist Church in Indio, then at Joshua Springs Calvary Chapel in Yucca Valley. His favorite hobby was playing golf. He looked forward to his weekly golf game with the Calimesa Golf Association. He also loved fishing and camping with great friends throughout the years. He especially loved teaching his grandchildren how to fish and to play golf.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Barnes, of 52 years, his son Craig Barnes and wife Marybel, his daughter Jennifer Rupard and husband Joey, his sisters Burlean Blackwell and Linda Moody and his grandchildren: Chris Barnes, Taylor Barnes, Rebekah Rupard, and Elijah Rupard (whom he loved dearly).
He was preceded in death by his parents Fount and Vera Barnes, his brothers: Paul Jenkins, Raymond Jenkins, Burrien Barnes, Ottis Barnes, and Kermit Barnes, his sisters: Elsidean Green and Evelyn Thornsberry.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2015, 1:00PM at Elizabeth Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas with Craig Barnes and Brother Joey Rupard officiating. Interment will be at Sugar Hill Cemetery in Mountain View, Arkansas.
Pallbearers are Roy Green, Brent Thornsberry, Steve Blackwell, James Barnes, Brad Moody, and Orbin Barnes. Honorary pallbearers are Burrel Green, Tim Thornsberry, Lawson Barnes, Ricky Barnes, Don Jenkins, and Rex Blackwell.
For those who prefer, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Sugar Hill Cemetery Fund at the Centennial Bank in Mountain View, AR.
