Velma Berniece Branscum Woody, 67, of Onia, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at her home. Velma was born on June 21, 1948 in Batesville, Arkansas to the late Thurlow Raymond and Mamie (Trammell) Branscum. Velma earned her Master's Degree and was a history teacher at numerous high schools and colleges throughout her career. Among being a history teacher Velma authored two books and was a member of the Vine Avenue Baptist Church.
Velma leaves behind her loving husband of 51 years, Curtis Woody; two sons, Curt Woody and wife Mary Sue, Johnny Woody and fiancée Jessica Kelly; three daughters, Jettia Day and fiancé Jason Luchtenburg, Carrie Woody, and Charlene Steiger and husband Sean; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, and eighteen step-great-grandchildren.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Charles Lance Branscum; one son, Anthony Raymond Owen Woody, one grandson, Thurlow Anthony Woody, and one son-in-law, Lonnie Joe Day, Sr.
A visitation will take place on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 from 6-8PM at Roller Coffman Chapel in Mountain View, Arkansas. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016, 10:00AM at Roller Coffman Chapel in Mountain View, Arkansas with Brother Ron Childress and Brother Gary Don Fletcher officiating. Interment will be at Pordue Cemetery in Onia, Arkansas.
Pallbearers are Chris Day, Keith Morgan, Harold Hess, James Harlow, Sean Steiger, and Will Steiger. Honorary pallbearers are the Class of 1965, Neal Harness, Travis Trammell, Joey Day, Johnny McDaniel, Johnny Woody, Curt Woody, Robert Trammell, Michael Woody, Brian Woody,Keith Lewis, and Lames Scooter Pousson.
Roller Crouch Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

I am so sorry to hear of Berniece's passing. I was in her class from the time I started high school until I graduated in 1989. She was a great teacher and loved by many. My thoughts and prayers are with the Woody family during this very difficult time.
