Harvey Douglas Clingings

of Marshall, AR

June 3, 1952 - May 5, 2015

Harvey Douglas Clingings, age 62 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Tuesday, May 05, 2015 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was born in Marshall, Arkansas on June 3rd, 1952 to Felix D. Clingings and Letha R. (Horton) Clingings.

Harvey was a member of the Marshall Assembly of God Church where he sang in the choir. Although affected by cerebral palsy, he found very few things he could not do. Harvey was only limited by a few things. Whatever he set his mind to do, he usually found a way to accomplish it. He enjoyed mowing the lawn, driving his RTV, fishing and keeping up with everyone on Facebook. Because of the room not being handicapped accessible, Harvey was forced to leave school when entering the fifth grade. In 1999 he decided to get his GED. He began studying at North Central Adult Education Center in Leslie. Upon completion of the course and passing his exams, Harvey received his GED Diploma in 2000. He enjoyed writing poetry. He wrote and copyrighted the lyrics to a song called ''Did God Ever Cry''. Harvey was an inspiration to so many people. He would always greet you with a big smile and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed joking and having fun. Harvey had a special love for babies and small children and they for him. Harvey will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Felix Clingings; an infant brother, Dickie Clingings; and an infant nephew.

He is survived by his mother, Letha Clingings of the home; one brother, Larry (Gloria) Clingings of Marshall; and many friends and relatives.

Funeral services for Harvey will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 8th, 2015 at the Assembly of God Church in Marshall, Arkansas with Rev. Phillip Clark and Rev. Allen Brock officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 till 8:00 PM Thursday, May 7th, 2015 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery near Harriet, Arkansas.

Harvey's cousins will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Tarrant, Paul Lee and Sonny Woods.

Harvey touched the hearts of all who knew him with his loving shyness. The first time I saw Harvey was at Marshall school. Letha was starting him to school. He was in his little roller cart by the school bus. What a devoted mother you have been ! I learned later that he was one of my long list of Watts cousins who are very dear to me. May God bless you Letha, Larry and Gloria with peaceful comfort at this time. With our heartfelt sympathy, Marinda and Rick Holliman

I don't know how to express or put in words the gratitude and deep heartfelt love of myself and so many others that I have known over the years. And years ago, Jack Hensley and myself logged in Sylamore forest and through and over the years the "Dune Buggy" came to be an important role in our lives. Many times in the bad weather of winter, when we were at Caroline Gap, bark said optimist cold water spring and many places far and wide also. That we had no idea what the weather was gonna be or do. And if we could get on a high hill somewhere, many times we could get the "Dune Buggy" on the radio and he would play the severe weather for us that was at times extremely helpful, which is something that I know he greatly enjoyed doing, was helping his fellow man. Over the years, my handle was "Snake Doctor" and Jack was "Water Dog". As time went by and Harvey knew us better and we visited, he changed my handle to "Chicken" "Snake" it took so much communication before I could understand that he was renaming me "Chicken Snake" it took so much effort to figure what he was saying, but when we finally realized he was calling m "Chicken Snake" we all has such an enjoyable laugh and he always called me that from then on. And just recently, he gave me a copy of a song he wrote, and I will always cherish him, his brother Larry, and their friendship as I know Jack also did throughout my life. It has been an honor to have known a man such as "Dune Buggy" and I know Heaven is richly enhanced by the presence of Harvey in glory. Thank you so much to the family. -Walter Arthur

My parents are Shirley and the late Leroy Morrison (Faye Morrison was my granny). I remember visiting Arkansas and seeing Harvey. He should be an inspiration to all of us despite having a disability. He always had a smile on his face and I remember he would talk on the Ham radio in the evenings. I often communicated with Harvey via Facebook on many occasions. He would make me laugh with his "saw some pretty girls while I was in my buggy today."

He was loved by many and will be certainly missed by many.

I am sad to hear the news of Harvey passing but I'm rejoicing that he is free today. Not being bound by a body that does not work and is running with the angels there! My thoughts and prayers are with his family who were faithful caregivers until the end. Find comfort in knowing that you will see him again. Love to all!

Bro. Mike and I would like to offer our condolences during this time of sorrow, Harvey was a beautiful person inside and out. He brought joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. I remember hearing him sing at Bro. Brocks church and it brought tears to my eyes. He always had a smile. Harvey will be greatly missed in our little community! I know he is enjoying his heavenly body but most of all I know he's enjoying the company of our Lord and Savior as well as family and friends whom were there to greet him at the gates of heaven!

Surely, this planet is a better place for Harvey Clingings having lived on it. I am thankful for the friendship I've had with Harvey since we were small boys. My prayers for you, dear family, during this most difficult time of loss. As it is recorded in scripture, Eye hath not seen, ear hath not heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man, what God has in store for them that love him. Harvey loved his God and today is not bound by a wheelchair, but rather is enjoying for the first time unrestricted joy from another world. Rest in peace, my dear friend.
