Alice Faye McClung VanEcko

of Little Rock, AR

July 27, 1940 - April 11, 2017

Alice Faye McClung VanEcko, 76, of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away April 11, 2017. She was born July 27, 1940 in Marshall, Arkansas to Randolph Leroy and Jewell Yancey McClung.

While in college, she met Andrew VanEcko. Alice and Andy were married July 5, 1962. She attended Arkansas Teachers College and then taught elementary students in Little Rock schools. Her patience and dedication, as a teacher, earned her numerous teaching awards throughout her career, including the distinction of Teach of the Year, twice. She leaves behind a legacy of students who benefited from her passion for teaching and she was often stopped while shopping with big hugs from former students. Alice loved nothing more than spending time with family, whether it was days reminiscing with her sister, Bonnie, raising her boys, or playing games and reading stories with her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Andrew and her parents. Alice was a devoted wife and beloved mother. She is survived by her two sons, Randolph VanEcko (Jennifer) of Little Rock and Scott VanEcko (Traci) of Benton; four grandchildren, Cappel, Brendan, Emily and Cheyenne; her sister, Bonnie McClung Goodman of Marshall; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Alice's quick smile and gentle presence will be missed by all. She was always a kind person and loving soul to all that knew her.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209, (501) 455-5800. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M., Saturday, at East Lawn Cemetery, Marshall, Arkansas.

Randy and Scott, I am sorry to hear about your Mom. I was a student of hers when she was at St Theresa's many many years ago. She was one of my favorite teachers. Over the years I have thought of her often and with a smile on my face. Again I am so sorry for your loss.

Randy and Scott, I taught with your mom at St. Theresa. She was the most kind and caring person! Her patience was astounding because she had to deal with my kids at St. Theresa! I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers to you and your families!

My deepest condolences to the family. Alice was indeed a special person. My mother thought so much of her, as did I. Our families have lots of memories that we will cherish forever. God Bless.
