Verna Jeane Lambie of Little Rock, Arkansas died 11-10-16. She was born in Alicia, Arkansas on December 24, 1922 , the only child of Lacy and Eunice Morgan. She graduated from Hoxie High School in 1940, married, and moved to Detroit, Michigan where she worked in an aircraft plant during WWII. She moved to Arkansas, became a Psychiatric Technician Nurse and raised her two sons.

In 1960 she was elected president/executive director of the state council of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees(AFSCME), AFL-CIO and served in that capacity for 22 years. She was appointed as a hearing officer of the National Judicial Panel.

She was also active in the women's movement in the 1970's and 80's. She was founder of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) and national Women's Political Caucus. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women, the World's Who's Who of Women, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, a Remarkable Woman of Arkansas in 1977 and was listed as one of the 100 Arkansas Women of Achievement in 1980. She was a world traveler, visiting nearly 50 countries in five continents.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sons Lacy Eugene, Michael Glen and Darryl Alton Lambie. She is survived by grandchildren Brandon Lambie and wife Robin of Longview, Texas, granddaughter Kristin Stanley and husband Harry of Austin, Texas and granddaughter Dr. Elizabeth Sullivan and husband Adam of Little Rock, Arkansas, and great grandsons Morgan, Jacob, Danial and Rory. She considered her great friend Doris Gipson as a sister and Doris' family as her adopted family.

Graveside service 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 14, 2016 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Searcy.
