of Mountain Home, AR

January 15, 1928 - March 23, 2018

Arthur Charles Gallet, son of Belgian immigrants, Julien and Julia (Lambert) Gallet, was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1928. Shortly, before his 7th birthday, Arthur moved to Brugge, Belgium with his mother after his parents' divorce. While in high school in Brugge, Belgium, he and several of his classmates became very involved in the resistance movement against the Nazi German occupation of Belgium. At age 16, Arthur and his fellow resistance classmates were discovered by the Nazis; removed from school to be incarcerated as ''Political Prisoners'' of the Germans for over a year. Arthur survived his imprisonment and was liberated in April 1945, at the end of World War II. He returned to Brugge to reunite with his mother, but subsequently returned to Chicago in 1946 to his father.
Arthur served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from November 1950 to November 1952. He met Marie Mattea and they united in marriage in Chicago in 1954. Together, the couple raised four sons and lived in Chicago until 1994, when they moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Mr. Gallet was employed in the construction trades, as a plasterer in Chicago, for his entire working life. Arthur enjoyed many hobbies, such as fishing, photography, gardening, model ship building, and wood carving.
He is survived by his sons: Roger (Theresa), Kenneth, Glenn, and Gary; 3 grandsons: Steven, Christopher, and Brennan; his brother, Julien (Deb) and his sister, Germaine (Ron) Hosman. Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; his parents; and 3 grandchildren: Caleb, Adam, and Melissa.
Visitation with the family receiving friends will be Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Roller Funeral Home from 4:00-6:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Reverend Norbert Rappold as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Baxter Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice in honor of Mr. Arthur Gallet.
