Yvonne Nelms, 90, of Brookland, died Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Lexington Place of Jonesboro. She was born March 10, 1927, at Brookland to Edd Adams, Jr. and Minnie Davenport Adams. Yvonne was a Postmaster with the US Postal Service, and a member of Brookland United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, card games, reading, camping, her family and church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward "Red" Nelms; a brother, Charles Adams; and two sisters-in-law, Francis (Nelms) Nall, and Naomi (Nelms) Box.
She is survived by her son, Bruce (Dianne) Nelms of Brookland; one brother, Russell Adams of Rockford, Illinois; three sisters, Evelyn Gray of Brookland, Eddie June Bogard of Rockford, Illinois, and Judi Whitney of Rockford, Illinois; five grandchildren, Andrea (Brian) Pearson of Paragould, Jillian (Michael) Harris of Wynne, Maghen (Blake) Carpenter of Brookland, Ginny Nelms of Brookland, and Ethan Nelms of Brookland; five great-grandchildren, Daxton Harris, Drake Harris, Riley Pearson, Evan Pearson, and Piper Pearson.
Visitation will be Monday, June 12th, 6:00-8:00pm, at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home chapel, 1900 West Washington Avenue, Jonesboro.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 13th, at 10:00am, in the funeral home chapel, with burial to follow at Pine Log Cemetery. Michael Smith will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Ethan Nelms, Blake Carpenter, Michael Harris, Sean Robins, Kenny Scott, and Charles Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Cornish, Ryan Cornish, Wes Cornish, Joel Crocker, Jason Crocker, Rusty Adams, and Conley Bogard.
We are so sorry for your loss; Linda and I have so many happy memories of our fellowship with Yvonne (and Red). I was blessed to know Yvonne who always had words of love , mercy and grace to share with me. Yvonne lived her faith with grace and blessed everyone she came in contact with; we will miss her, but we know that Yvonne and Red wait for us in glory. Many the grace of Christ comfort you all in this time of sorrow.
