James Richard Barton, 82, of Jonesboro passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 at his home. He was born February 20, 1935 in Trumann to James Franklin and Bessie Mae Long Barton. James worked and farmed in the Lake City area in his younger years, then as a mechanic most of his life, then later in life he started a rental property business. He was of the Church of Christ faith and loved working on motors and lawn mowers.
James is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Teresa Ann Barton; grandson, Darrell Barton Jr.; and two brothers, Curtis and Thomas Hooper.
Survivors include his wife, Coyse E. Lyle Barton; a son, Darrell W. (Deanna) Barton of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Dalynn Nichole (Daniel) Turner and Shane Alexander Smith, both of Jonesboro, and Scott (JoAnn) Brandon of Manila; great grandchildren, Wyatt Dean Turner, Dani Nichole Turner (due in July) all of Jonesboro, and Aalyah Marie Wilfred of TN; and two uncles, Jerry and Earl Long.
Chapel services will be 2 pm Monday, May 1, 2017 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 West Washington Avenue in Jonesboro with Gary Cremeens officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Log Cemetery in Brookland.
Visitation will begin at 1 pm until time of service.
Anthony Mayhan, Wayne Mayhan, George Spencer, Ron Sylvia and Bret Tate will serve as active pallbearers. Wickie Cox, Luther Ingram, Mike McQuay and Lance Sharp will serve as honorary pallbearers.
