Mary "Miss Mary" Viola Austin

of Jonesboro, AR

February 21, 1940 - January 22, 2017

Mary Austin '''' Mary Viola (Baney) Austin, 76, of Jonesboro, AR passed away Sunday, 1/22/2017 at St. Elizabeth's Place in Jonesboro. Mary was known to her family and friends as either Tiny or Miss Mary. She was born February 21, 1940 in Campbell Station, AR to William Vester and Dolley Ferguson Baney. Miss Mary earned her GED in 1980 when her oldest son entered college. She worked with disabled adults for 14 years at the Human Development Center in Jonesboro. Miss Mary was married to Billy Gene Austin for 54 years, who was a helicopter crew chief in the USAF, and travelled to many locations both abroad and in the US, including Iceland, Newfoundland, Washington D.C., Salina KS, Minot ND, Pasadena CA, and Myrtle Beach SC. She was a member of the Providence Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Bay Senior Center and loved arranging flowers for weddings, going to yard sales and watch TV crime shows. She was devoted to children and generations have grown up calling her ''Miss Mary'' or ''Aunt Tiny''. It wasn't unusual for children to run up to her at the grocery store or commissary yelling at the top of their lungs, or for her sons to wake up on a Saturday morning to find a new kid already sitting in front of the TV, eating cereal and watching cartoons.

Miss Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include her sons Terry Austin and Paul Austin; three brothers, Charles Baney of Cherry Valley, Alford Baney of Harrisburg and William Alvin Baney of Cherokee Village; three sisters, Francis Pauline Roberts of Trumann, Melissa Davis of Trumann and Mildred Wood of MI; a nephew and often called ''her favorite son'', Gary Hubbard; and her beloved dog, Buddy Boy.

Chapel services will be 2 pm Saturday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 West Washington Avenue in Jonesboro with David Mote officiating. Burial will be private at Tyronza Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 1 pm until time of service.

Dear Family,
I grew up in the Needham community and went to Providence Baptist Church with Billy and Mary. They were good Christian people. My Mom, Barbara "Jeanie" Ring always loved spending time with Mary.

I will always have fond memories of Mary and Bill.
May they RIP,

Terry & Paul
Words cannot express the sadness I have in my heart.
I was very fortunate to have Tiny in my life for the last eight years. I thank you all for welcoming me into the family.
She was extremely important to Gary ( his second mom) and had become very special to me.
I will treasure the times we came to visit.
Please if you need anything we are always just a phone call away. Much Love Michaela
