Mary Evelyn Adcox

April 14, 1922 - September 13, 2014

Mary Evelyn Adcox, of Maumelle and England, Arkansas, died Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the age of 92. Mrs. Adcox is survived by her two daughters, Audrey Grisham and Carolyn Dobbins; son-in-law, T.A. Dobbins; one nephew, Larry Hollinger, four grandchildren and their spouses, Audrianna Grisham and David Hodges, Dannetta Grisham and Ronnie Hutchinson, Jeff and Donita Dobbins, Bruce and Angela Dobbins; six great-grandchildren, Cody, Misty, Shelby, Taylor and Hayley Dobbins, and Remi Hodges; and five great great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Adcox was predeceased by her husband, Windle William Adcox, four siblings, son-in-law Ronnie E. Grisham, as well as countless numbers of deer, duck, Crappie and catfish.
Born, April 14, 1922, Mary Evelyn Craig married Windle Adcox in 1941. The Adcox's farmed in Arkansas, Jefferson and Lonoke counties until the late 1980's. An avid outdoorsman, Mrs. Adcox enjoyed a lifelong love of fishing. Only three months ago, she could be spotted on Lake Willisten in Maumelle on her scooter retro fitted to hold fishing poles and a tackle box hauling in a ten pound catfish.
In her spare time, Mrs. Adcox made pillows for the patients at Arkansas Children's Hospital. This fine woman was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. Her family was blessed to have had the wisdom, knowledge and understanding acquired during her long life, passed on to them. We can only aspire to be of the same high quality as she.
Services will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Roller England Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour before services. Mrs. Adcox will be laid to rest next to her husband in Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart, Arkansas immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Arkansas Children's Hospital or the Maumelle Senior Wellness Center.

Carolyn and Audrey
Prayers for your families during this time.
Ronnie had such fond memories of Aunt Evelyn and Uncle Windle.
Sorry, I did not know earlier.
The picture of her with the fish was so fitting.

Sorry to hear of the loss of Aunt Evelyn. She was always a lot of fun to be with. Enjoyed seeing her whenever our family came to Arkansas. Our prayers go with you in this time of grief.

Just read Evelyn's obit. While this is not your usual posting at a time like this, it truly seems the right thing to do.
Have to say Evelyn certainly led a full life. I can remember she and Windall from my childhood since I was Bill and Louise Harper Temple's oldest child.
I do remember Windall as chewing a cigar and loved to talk. My parents always enjoyed them so much.
My aunt, Margaret Ann Harper Fread has told the story many a time, of when the hail came and wiped out my grandfather Harper's cotton crop at Geridge on what is now hwy 165.
Windall and Evelyn pulled into the driveway the next morning and said the hail had all but destroyed their house and Vernie Hildebrand had been born the night before in all of that storm. They were all neighbors way back then.
Of course that was long before crop insurance and eveyone was left to survive the best you could. That had to have been a influencing factor on my aunt as she sold crop insurance down in north Louisiana for something like 30 years.
I feel sure Evelyn's family will miss her greatly. It was great to know her when we did. It is sort of "thanks for the memories" as I am sure she has found plenty of her old friends on the other side, and if not, she has already made new ones.
So sorry for your family's loss.
