Ray Burton, 81, of Highland, Arkansas, was born February 10, 1934 in Agnos, Arkansas to L. V. and Mattie Ova Ray Burton. Ray married his Hardy High School Sweetheart, Oleta Hughes, on June 2, 1956. He passed away Monday, June 15, 2015 at his home.
He was a master mechanic and a veteran of the U. S. Army, 101st Airborne Division Military Police. Ray had worked in Arkansas, Illinois, Arizona, and Missouri. He was transportation supervisor for the Highland School District and a Sharp County reserve duty officer for more than twenty years in each capacity.
Ray is survived by his loving and caring wife of 59 plus years, Oleta, of the home; sons, Dennis (Karen Orosz) Burton and Kevin Burton, both of Highland; and his daughter, Tena (Wendall) Smith of Salem. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Michael (Stacey) Burton of Highland, Michelle Burton Daggett of Cherokee Village, Ryan (Angela) Burton of Jonesboro, Tamara (Snow) Wilson of Cherokee Village, Ashley (Josh) Bateman of Tuckerman, Shane Smith of Salem, Kyle, Megan, Kaleb, and Maddie Burton of Highland; fourteen great-grandchildren: Emma, Warren, Annabelle, Samuel, and Sarah Burton, John Thomas, Aiden and Macy Daggett, Addison and Aubrey Burton, Skyler Burton, Rian and Reese Wilson, and Kooper Bateman; and many other relatives and good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will include Roy Causbie, Kerry Evans, Danny Slayton, Paul Garner, Jack Kimbrell, and Ronnie Brogdon.
Funeral services celebrating Ray's life will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Ward Street Church of Christ in Hardy with burial to follow in Baker Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch-McGee Funeral Home of Cave City.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, also at the church.
