James Charles Harris, 84, of Melbourne, died Friday, June 9, 2017.
He was born on May 17, 1933 in Melbourne, Arkansas to James Harris Jr. and Viva (Marsh) Harris.
James served and is a Veteran of the US Navy and was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a former member of the Melbourne City Council and instrumental in the creation of the Melbourne History Museum.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Dill) Harris of Melbourne; son, James Steven Harris of Melbourne; daughter, Pamela Dianne Harris of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren, Heather R. Markowski of Batesville, Mandi Elizabeth Pitman (Josh) of Melbourne, and Travis Adams of St. Louis, Missouri; three great-grandchildren, Kobe Rayne Markowski, Gary (Alex) Pitman, and Deacon James Harris Pitman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Viva Harris; son, Walter Gary Weeks; and daughter, Donna Weeks Adams.
Pallbearers are Bob Ramsey, Jim Phipps, Glen Hunt, Rayne Markowski, Bob Blankenship and Chris Hill.
The funeral service will be at 2:00pm on Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Roller-Crouch Chapel in Melbourne with Travis Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Melbourne Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 2:00pm before the service.
