Lora Bell Owens Barnes, 89, of Brockwell, Arkansas, died Tuesday, August 16, 2016 in Melbourne.
She was born in Wideman, Arkansas, on January 27, 1927, and was the daughter of Teddy Thomas and Carrie Elizabeth (Dockins) Owens. Lora worked as a cook at the Calico Rock Nursing Home for 34 years. After she left the nursing home, she worked and retired from the kitchen at the Calico Rock Hospital. She was a very hard worker who enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking. No one ever left her home hungry. She also made hand sewn quilts. Lora was a huge prayer warrior and was a member of the Brockwell Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include her son, Earl Barnes and wife, Renee, of Brockwell; two daughters, Helen Vest and husband, Kenneth, of Melbourne and Mary Hiles and husband, Dennis of Brockwell; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by two brothers, Junior Owens and wife, Katherine, and Darrell Owens and wife, Betty; and four sisters, Pauline Morehead and husband, Mervela; Muna Holman; Betty Owens; Sally Gould and husband, Bill; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Barnes of Wideman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lindel A. Barnes; son, Roy Barnes; two brothers, Leamon Owens and James Owens; two sisters, Faye Sherrill and Gracie Jones, and two twin infant sisters, Molly and Polly Owens.
Pallbearers will be Michael Vest, Randy Hiles, Brandon Hiles, Ricky Hiles, Alan Barnes, and Steve Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Brockwell Pentecostal Church with Earl Barnes officiating. Burial will follow the services at Wideman Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
