I served in the Navy.
Verble Eston HerringtonI am a Veteran.

November 10, 1925 - June 9, 2018

Verble Eston Herrington of Little Rock went to be with the Lord in the early hours of Saturday, June 9, 2018. He was born November 10, 1925 in Gurdon, Arkansas to Andrew L. Herrington and Maud Lou McGinnis Herrington. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Earl Herrington; sister, LouElla Herrington Tinkle; first wife, Gertrude Roine Herrington and son-in-law, Jackson Snell. Verble is survived by his wife of 69 years, Virginia Lee Hill Herrington; his daughter, Barbara Herrington Snell; grandsons, John and Greg Snell, along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

First and foremost, Verble was a man of God. Our ''Pa'' loved the Lord, reading his Bible and attending Joshua's Men Sunday School at Immanuel Baptist Church where he was a member for 45 years. Verble was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during WWII. Following his service, Verble worked on the railroad for Missouri Pacific/MoPac-Union Pacific for 44 years as a machinist and retired on Halloween in 1987. He was always quick with a joke and a laugh, but even quicker to extend his love and compassion to anyone lucky enough to find themselves in his presence. A lover by nature, this extended past people to animals. Pa never found an animal that he couldn't befriend, and loved dogs especially, growing up with his dogs Queen and Teddy, and a goat named Billy. Even though Virginia didn't approve of his country-boy vernacular, across his life, Verble ''learned'' people lots of things, especially his two grandsons. Verble was a life-long sports fan, but he particularly loved baseball and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

He was a gentle man, calm and reserved, who taught us all how to enjoy every moment of life. He taught us that it's alright to be a little misbehaved or mischievous at times, and that life doesn't have to be taken so seriously. Verble brightened the world when he came into it, just as he brightened any room he entered. This world and the ones blessed enough to call him friend, are better and brighter for having known Verble Herrington. His place in our lives and on this Earth could never be replaced and he will be missed beyond words. His departure from his bodily vessel brings sadness and mourning, but only temporarily, as the light of his soul shines on in all of us.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas (501) 224-8300. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be the Joshua's Men Sunday School Class of Immanuel Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Immanuel Baptist Church's Bereavement Fund or Building Fund, 501 N. Shackleford Rd, Little Rock, AR 72211, or to Baptist Health Hospice, 11900 Colonel Glenn Rd, Ste. 2000, Little Rock, AR 72210 or to the charity of your choosing.

So sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the words spoken at Revelation 21:3,4"With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.

Virginia and Barb, i am so sorry for your loss. Verble was one of the nicest, sweetest, kindest people I know and always a perfect gentleman. I’m sure when he got to Heaven’s doors, God opened them wide and smiling said “Verble, what took you so long?” He will be missed.

I had the wonderful opportunity of spending an afternoon ( along with my sister Judy Brantley) with Verble and Virginia a few years ago. Verble was a wonderful host and a gifted storyteller who, at one point, had me choked up while relating a romantic tale from years ago. I'm sure the Lord is happy to have Verble in his fold. Rest in Peace.
