January 20, 1940 - December 12, 2017

H. Gerald (Jerry) Hughes, my precious husband, passed away on December 12, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on January 20, 1940 to Hulon E. and Nellie D. Hughes in Stuttgart, Arkansas and grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

He loved God and serving others. He was a great man of faith and served many years as a deacon at the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ and on the board of Central Arkansas Christian Schools. He also proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

After attending UALR, he founded and operated Hughes Building Specialties and Installers, Inc. He received his Architectural Hardware Consultant certification at a very young age.

In 1959, he married the love of his life, Nina, by whom he is survived. They walked hand in hand for fifty-eight wonderful years. He is also survived by his son, Kevin Hughes (Kelley); his daughter, Lori Hughes; grandsons, Scott and Alex Hughes; two sisters, Pat Gire and Alice Perryman; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, 10900 Rodney Parham Road, Little Rock, Arkansas. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Brad Baltz and his wonderful staff for the many years of kind and compassionate care.

Memorials may be made to Southern Christian Children's Home, P.O. Box 649, Morrilton, Arkansas 72110.

Nina,
Knowing your husband has been a great blessing. The world has truly lost a great man. Though he is physically gone his memories are forever and may you find peace in the knowledge that he loved you deeply. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh how my heart aches for your loss of such a special soul who has completed his journey for the time on Earth and is now whole and pain free and heading to such a wonderful place that we are all striving toward also.
I can so clearly remember Uncle Jerry's laughter and kindness to this very day. He always lit up a room when he entered it.
I know this time is going to seem impossible to continue on without such a great man, but know he is healed now, rejoicing with angels, and you can carry him with you until you join him one day.
Heaven is definitely sweeter of a goal now that Jerry is there.
Hugs and prayers to all of you.
