Marjorie Joan Garrett

April 30, 1931 - December 2, 2017

Marjorie Joan Garrett, age 86 of Little Rock, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017. She was born on April 30, 1931 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to her late parents, Albert and Beulah M. Rayborn Osborn, the second child of three. Her parents divorced later in years where she stayed with her maternal grandparents while her mother worked some distance away.

Marjorie's first job was as a waitress. In later years, she was hired as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell in Springfield, Missouri having received the job because she could spell the word, ''Chevrolet.'' It was during her tenure at Southwestern Bell that she met her husband, Earl Gene Garrett, Sr., whom she married in November of 1949.

Following their marriage, they traveled to Earl's mother's home in Little Rock where they lived until they got their first home in 1952. Marjorie continued her job as a phone operator until the birth of their only child, Earl Gene Garrett, Jr. She remained a stay-at-home mom, participating in PTA and creating a loving home. She learned to play the organ, enjoyed camping and had an avid sewing hobby until her vision failed her.

Marjorie returned to work as a phone operator prior to her son entering high school. Although she was legally blind, she performed her job admirably with the use of a magnifying glass. Following retirement, she enjoyed gardening and woodworking with her husband.

She is survived by her son, Earl Gene Garrett, Jr of Little Rock. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents.

A visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. with funeral services following at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2017 in the Chapel of Roller- Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas with the Reverend Tony Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park
