Diane was my childhood friend as we grew up in Augusta, I moved when I was in the seventh grade and she was in the eighth. She lived on the corner in a large two-story white house and I would visit her and she was the only person I knew who had a record player. We would listen to music and she would try to teach me how to jitter-bug. Her Dad would let us take a few rides in their brand new 88 or 98 Oldsmobile with an automatic transmission and air-conditioning. This car was on the cutting edge; and Diane also had hair spray which had just become a new item on the market about this time. Our generation has seen a lot of changes and it is strange the little things we remember in our "golden years". My Mother operated a small restaurant close to Mr. Eldridge's law building and before that one on Highway 64 known as the Pie Shoppe. Having grown up in this atmosphere and then reading the comments about your Mom, I'm sure she must have worked very hard in her life. Everybody wants everything at once and then it is all over until the next meal. Recently I had found her on Facebook and could tell from her posts that she was sad, especially after her dog-friend of so many years died. I was sad to read your post about her passing, but want you to know that as far back as the 50's, she was showing her special way with people. I hope you have a nice gathering with many good stories. I also went to Wynne Publc Schools when I left Augusta and knew your Dad and the Harmon twins.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thinking of you guys . Hard to believe we grew up together playing at you house when we were young. So sorry for your loss.
With our deepest sympathy
