Helen Stringer Clinton

of Little Rock, AR

January 8, 1922 - August 28, 2016

Helen Clinton passed from this life to her heavenly eternal life on August 28, 2016. Helen was born on January 8, 1922 in Moselle, Mississippi to Sloan Benjamin and Sally Haigler Stringer. She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers; Floyd, Sr., Sam, Sr., P.M., and Herman, and three sisters; Beulah Johnson, Ester Lowe, and Mabry Crosby.

Helen married Kerney R. Clinton on August 10, 1943, and had two children; Patricia Ann ''Patsy'' Trammel (Robert) and Richard A. ''Dick'' Clinton (Linda). Helen is survived by her two children, six grandchildren; Brent Trammel (Jennalee), Monica Cooper (Gary), Kevin Trammel (Kimberly), Michelle Waugh (Thad), Bruce Clinton (Susanne), and Sloan Clinton (Alison); 18 great grandchildren, two sisters; Fannie Lee McCann of Jackson, Mississippi and Terese Rosetti of Biloxi, Mississippi, and many nieces and nephews.

Helen grew up in a farming environment near Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Stringer family grew plants and trees for the nursery business. This resulted in her siblings and their spouses opening nursery and landscaping businesses in Mississippi, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. After having worked in some of the family businesses, Helen and Kerney founded the Little Rock operations of Green Tree Nursery and Landscape Company, Inc. in 1950, with their first office at 10th and Main, then 19th and University, and finally at 9305 Rodney Parham. Helen and Kerney worked side by side as a team in providing plants and service to their customers in Little Rock and throughout Arkansas. Helen loved to work with bedding and house plants. The nursery always had a large variety of colorful and beautiful plants. You could usually find her potting up, displaying, or watering the plants that she dearly loved. Helen retired from the business with Kerney in 1996.

Helen was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over sixty years, serving in various capacities in the ministry of the church, especially the youth and adult bible study. Helen as a member of the Elizabeth Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 501 N. Shackleford Road, Little Rock, Arkansas, 72211. http://www.ibclr.org/grow/give/
