Dr. John V. SimonsI am a Veteran.

of North Little Rock, AR

June 14, 2016

On June 14, 2016, Dr. John V. Simons passed away, peacefully. John was with his wife and their daughter at the time of his death. Their presence was fitting given they were the loves of his life. Dr. Simons had a distinguished career as a military and private practice physician. He was born in Springfield, Illinois, in 1942, and was raised in Chicago, Illinois.

John was a graduate of the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine, and The University of Maryland. Dr. Simons joined the Army which began a 30-year career of active duty and Reserves, serving soldiers and their families throughout the world. At the time of John's retirement, from the Army, he was a full Colonel and served as the Chief of Podiatric Medicine at the Little Rock VA Hospital.

Upon retirement from the VA, Dr. Simons continued private practice in Hot Springs, Arkansas, until his full-time retirement in 2015. Dr. Simons was a man with many interests. He and his wife visited many countries as he had a passion for travel with a strong desire to learn all he could about the cultures and countries he visited. He loved to ski with family and friends which included trips to the most challenging mountains in the world. Recently, he was able to pass on that love of travel and skiing to his grandson, Jax, after having done the same for his daughter Leslie.

John was a loving husband, father and grandfather who is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol, their daughter, Leslie, son-in-law, Charley and grandson, Jax. He will also be missed by his many friends and the patients he so diligently served over his career.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016, at 2:00 PM, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas 72211, (501) 224-8300.

I just heard of the passing of Dr. Simons and am still in shock. I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Simons, initially, through my father who was also a veteran and Dr. Simons patient. My Dad told me that he really enjoyed going to see Dr. Simons, which was rare because my Dad didn't really care for going to see his other doctors. He assured me that I would really like Dr. Simons when I made my first appointment and he was so right. Dr. Simons had the very special quality of being able to relate to his patients on a number of levels and not just as a "patient/doctor" type of relationship. He had a kind, gentle, giving spirit that is rare to find today and one that made me enjoy going to see him for each appointment. He was one that was very easy to talk to and not wanting to rush the appointment to try to keep on a particular schedule because he truly cared about his patients, each and every one. Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of such a special man. He will truly be missed.

I just learned of Dr. Simons' passing, and I am so sorry. I saw him professionally several times when I was back visiting Hot Springs, and we always had the most interesting conversations. I am a Foreign Service Officer, and we loved to talk about travel and cultures in different parts of the world. My appointments would often run long because we got so caught up in our chats! What a kind and interesting man. My thoughts are with his family.

I just found out about John's passing. At first he was my fathers Doctor, he worked 20+ years saving my fathers feet. He soon became more than a doctor but a family friend. After he retired from the VA and opened his practice in Hot Springs my Mom and I would drive to Hot Springs for appointments. He will be missed. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of John and my father.

So sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the words spoken at John 5:28,29
(28). "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice (29) and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment".

I am so sorry for the loss of a man who indirectly still makes my family laugh. I have not forgotten all of the evenings ya'll would come into 1620 and we would visit. I still ask my son to how his "tips" are on the Sundays that he wears a tie, yesterday he made a comment that someone should tell Trump to check his tips. You guys are in my prayers.

We are returning from Utah, stopped in Fort Worth, opened the mail, and were shocked to hear this. The Simon's go back with us many years when Shelby and Jack were little. Carol and Doc were so kind to all of us. We all enjoyed his vitality at the "Man Kitchen", nobody could keep up. Doc was so full of energy. All of us on the Southwind Drive will miss him. Dear Carol & Family,
I was saddened to read today of Dr. Simons passing. I first met him at Dr. Campbell's office when he arrived to share that suite while his office was being built down the hall. I liked him immediately. Dr. Simons had a wonderful sense of humor and always an endless supply of stories and jokes to pass along. But more than that, he showed me and all others, regardless of our station in life, respect. Not all physicians have that special quality.

Dr. S. gave his patients his undivided attention and quality health care, including me. I can't even imagine how many patients he must have had world wide over the span of his long career. But, I assure you each one of them received a high standard of care from this very special doc. I wish I could remember the nickname he gave Jax, because he always had humorous anecdotes to share about those precious times together. He so loved his family.

So please accept my genuine thoughts and prayers for your great loss. Take care....
Very Sincerely,
Nancy

My heart breaks for Carol & his family. I worked for Dr. Simons 25 years ago, but knowing him had a lasting influence on me and my life since. He was a good, caring and compassionate man, and probably one of the smartest people I've ever known. He loved his country, his family, and his profession and he was always encouraging people to strive for excellence. We have definitely lost another "good one" who made a lasting mark on countless lives during his time on earth. Thank you, Doc, for your service and devotion. Thank you for your example. Thank you for your guidance. Thank you for sharing your spirit and love of life! May you be granted eternal joy and peace.
