Marilyn Elizabeth Mitchell

July 3, 1956 - June 10, 2016

MARILYN ELIZABETH MITCHELL, 59, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died June 10, 2016. She was the daughter of the late William Starr and Virginia Mitchell.

Marilyn was a lovely child and loving sister full of life and great promise. From a young age she was troubled by multiple mental illnesses, which prevented her from pursuing the life she would have chosen. In spite of that she completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, of which she was quite proud, and did work toward a graduate degree in gerontology. For a time, she held a paying job as a library assistant. She profoundly touched many of those who knew her.

She loved and was loved by her parents, her sisters and brother, Frances Mitchell Ross and Virginia Starr Mitchell of Little Rock and James Edward Mitchell of Vassalboro, Maine, her late brother-in-law, Robert Dwain Ross, her brother-in-law, George West, her sister-in-law, Libby Mitchell, her nine nieces and nephews, her eighteen great nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and family friends. She also made friends with many neighbors while walking her dog Sandy.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at UAMS for their care and attention during Marilyn's recent illness. Thanks also to Wilsa Robinson, Delphine Knight, Sharon Ahlborn and Ann Gevock for their kindness and thoughtfulness both recently and over the years.

Marilyn was raised in a family of faith and retained her belief and hope in God's grace. A service in Marilyn's memory will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, with inurnment at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church Columbarium and a reception following at the Virginia Mitchell Welcome Center at St. Margaret's. Arrangements are in the care of Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (501)224-8300.

So sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in the words spoken at John 5:28,29
(28). "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice (29) and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment".

Sweet Marilyn. We were lifelong friends through growing up in the neighborhood, Sunday School, Girl Scouts...and later both working at UALR. Cathy Mayton got it right - Marilyn, Ellie and Ann were the brain trust in our grade for sure! I pray Marilyn is finally at peace and her family finds comfort in the healing power of love and friendship.

I cared for Marylin the last months of her life. She loved music and would laugh when she knew I was watching her dance. She talked often about her dog with love twinkling in her eyes. She would get very excited when family came to visit and would of their visit for days. She was a beautiful lady so proud of all she had accomplished in her life journey. She taught me more than she ever could know. I know God is smiling as he welcomes from the bondage of her life. How she wished for so much and now she can have all she deserves. My prayers are with you. Please know Marylin is at great peace

Our Mom's were the best of friends. Marilyn and I played together through many a bible study. Sweet, gentle girl from one of Little Rock's finest families. Prayers for her siblings that stood by Marilyn. May she finally rest in peace.
