Carl Joseph RaqueI am a Veteran.

of Little Rock, AR

March 31, 1938 - November 24, 2015

Dr. Carl Joseph Raque, 77, of Little Rock passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2015. He has left an undeniable legacy that began at his birth on Thursday, March 31, 1938. His legacy is far and wide leaving many family and friends and others that he touched with his loving heart and charismatic personality. In Dr. Raque's most recent memories he enjoyed his life with the love of his life, Ann. They enjoyed a life together surrounded by many family and friends. He always referred to his loving wife as his best friend. Even though distance kept them from seeing each other as often as they would have liked, Dr. Raque enjoyed his two daughters Ranee and Cherie and their families. Dr. Raque did not shy away from technology advances and texted his daughters daily to find out about the last tennis match or school activity.

In 1965, Dr. Raque received his medical degree at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. For the next three years he served as an Army General Medical Officer at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, before a tour of duty in Vietnam. With service behind him, Dr. Raque completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia. During his second year, he received a National Institute of Health Fellowship, and spent the next two years studying and working on research under respected Dermatologist Walter B. Shelley M.D., Ph. D. For a young doctor and his wife searching for a place to call home, Little Rock was their first choice. He and his wife, Ann, and their two young daughters moved to the city, and Dr. Raque, who was born and raised in Louisville, KY, said ''It's a decision I have never regretted.'' Dr. Raque began his career when he joined the Little Rock Dermatology Clinic in 1971, and accepted a voluntary faculty appointment at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences at Little Rock in the Department of Dermatology. In 1974 Dr. Raque completed his graduate study in Dermatopathology. Nine years later, Dr. Raque started his own practice, the Arkansas Dermatology Clinic, P.A., where for 39 years he continued his dedication to provide the highest level of dermatological care for his patients. Throughout his years of practicing, Dr. Raque was always generous with his time and dedication to personalized care. His patients have always talked about his generosity with his time and the care that he provided them. Not surprisingly, many patients and their families became friends of Dr. Raque and his family.

Dr. Raque enjoyed his time away from the office with family and friends hunting, fishing and boating. He also loved spending time with and training his hunting dogs. Dr. Raque was active in his church, participating through the years as an usher, and in the Knights of Columbus. Dr. Raque was also a member of Pleasant Valley Country Club and loved playing 18 holes of golf and especially the fellowship on the 19th hole. He was a Charter Member of the Table of Knowledge, a group of men that gathered for lunch at Pleasant Valley Country Club. Their motto was ''Never talk about Politics'', but they always ended up talking about politics, and Dr. Raque usually led those discussions.

Dr. Raque was preceded in death by his parents, John Carl and Margaret Raque and is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann and their two daughters, Ranee (Reno) Aprile of Sydney, Australia and Cherie (Kevin) DiDio of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He is also survived by siblings Carole (Tom) Caras, Maurite (Joe) Scanlan, Lucian (Pam) Raque, and David (Susan) Raque and his grandchildren Reno, Marcus, Hannah, Mia and Audrey.

Dr. Raque lived life on his own terms with a deep sense of faith, patriotism and love of family. His values live on in those he loved and impacted.

A Vigil service will be held on Monday, November 30th at 7:00 P.M. at Christ the King Church, 4000 N. Rodney Parham Drive. A Mass of Christian Burial Celebrating the Life of Dr. Carl Joseph Raque will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Christ the King Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.

Arrangements by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas 72211, (501) 224-8300.

Dear Carl

It is with great sadness and condolences for your family and friends that I write this note.

However there is great joy to know you are present with the Lord, experiencing the Glory of our God, our Creator and our Father.

Your time on earth was limited, yet during your life you were an inspiration to all who knew you. You are greatly loved and missed.

Now you are in eternity, we comfort ourselves knowing we will be joined again with you to continue in love and fellowship.

We enjoyed a lifetime of fellowship and male bonding. He was a close friend and mentor.

From the first night out at the club ballroom telling yarns and dancing to John Philip Sousa (circa 1992) to watching the young boys catching fish at Lake de Gray (July 2015)

Working the hunting dogs at the quail ranch, hitting golf balls at the golf club, fishing for bass and the countless kitchen table sessions. We enjoyed many special holiday meals together at the dining room table and dined out at places ranging from the Waffle House at Shackelford to the marina at Hamilton Island.

We talked family, country, business, and life. Our last of many phone conversations was Sunday 15 Nov 2015. We talked about his upcoming trip to Florida, his health (which seemed to be always bothering him) and our plans.

I am truly blessed and well sustained by the wealth of vivid and loving memories and the enduring impact that Carl had on my life.

His deep sense of faith and love are a source of peace during this most difficult time. My prayers and efforts are with Ann, my wife Ranee, young Reno, Marcus and Mia, and my sister Cherie, brother Kevin, and Hannah and Audrey.

Not only was I a patient of Dr. Raque's, but I also typed personal business correspondence for him and both Cherie and Ranee while they were in college. He was such a kind doctor and had such a wonderful sense of humor. I wish I could say more than my deepest sympathies to the family, but unfortunately words fail me. He will be missed.

We wanted all of the family to know that we are very sorry to hear about the death of Dr. Raque. We particularly wanted to reach out to Cherie, who has been a friend of our family for many years and is still one of Christi's closest friends.

I consider it a blessing to have known Dr Raque and his sweet family. I met him when I was 17 years old and had the privilege of being on his staff for over 15 plus years. I got to work for him until he retired. It was such a privilege to work for him for all those years. He taught me so many things and he treated his staff with the most upmost respect and fairness. He was an an extremely generous boss too!! I always loved coming to work every day and working with him. I always loved how even if we were way behind and super busy he would take the time out of our day to listen to me or to take the time to explain something to me. He always made me smile as he did all our patients who loved to come see him. There will never be another dr like him ever. He was one in a million. His sweet wife and daughters are a blessing too. I
Want yall to know im praying for yall right now. I know this has to be so hard and I know yall will miss him dearly. Please know I'm praying for Jesus to wrap his arms around you and give you comfort right now. Hugs and love to you all. Jennifer

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Dr. Raque was a special person who touched many lives, including mine. The time that he spent with his patients was very unique. He not only treated medical needs but also took the time to develop friendships. As a member of his staff, I have many fond memories and feel blessed to have worked for him. Ann, Ranee and Cherie, I am sending love from Texas.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Dr. Raque but I have heard wonderful stories of a great husband, friend, father, grandfather and physician from his beautiful and devoted daughter Cherie. My thoughts and prayers and deepest sympathy are with his wife and family during this difficult and sad time. Just as I was touched by the stories that I have heard about Dr. Raque, may those who know and love him continue to share these great stories so his legacy can live on. With love, Karen Birmingham

What an amazing life to celebrate! Dr. Raque clearly has touched so many. I love hearing Cherie talk about her dad - it is clear that he was nothing short of an amazing father and that she adored him. If everyone could be so lucky as to have a role model like this in their life! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Cherie and her family during this difficult time.

Undeniable legacy so true, Ray and I thought the world of him and had every confidence in his knowledge. His patient dealings were superb, we were sad to see him retire, but felt he deserved it. The best to his family. We felt honored to be his patients.
