Dasie ''Laverne'' Spencer was 80 years young, born on August 30, 1934 in Coryell County, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lee Spencer, on Sunday, February 13, 2000. At age 19, Laverne married Raymond Lee Spencer from Joplin, MO. who was 23 at that time, on the 17th of October, 1953. They met while he was stationed at Fort Hood, TX.

Her late parents were W.R. Sims and Rosa Larance Sims who are both buried in Restland Cemetery, Gatesville, TX. Both parents and her siblings, all mentioned how bright Laverne had always been, and were not surprised when she chose nursing as her career. Laverne shared this passion with three of her sisters as well and then passed this on to her own daughter and her granddaughter as well.

She is survived by her son, Harold Ray Spencer and Cynthia ''Cindy'' Ann Spencer Greenwell and her husband, Richard Greenwell; all living in Texas at this time; her granddaughter Kristen Michelle Jones Gloria, her grandsons Brady Alan and Kyle Matthew Schlesier; also she was gifted a grandson, Anthony Brent Orlicek, raised by Cindy. Laverne was the second of nine children, survivors are J.R. Sims and Linda Cathrine Duncan; preceded in death by Rosa Marie Chambers; Virgie Louise Clary; Gladys Loraine Beasley; Ruthie Lee Coleman; Walter Dean Sims; and Willie Raymond Sims.

Laverne had a love of music all her life, and spent many Sundays in her favorite Baptist Church. One special quote was noted in the Bible she left for her family: Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
