of Little Rock, AR

August 8, 1925 - April 10, 2015

Kathleen Piepke Smith, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died April 10, 2015, surrounded by her family.

She was born on August 8, 1925, in Oklahoma City and adopted by John and Rena Piepke of Wellston, Oklahoma, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Herman Chris Piepke, of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
Kathleen graduated from Wellston High School. She met and married the love of her life, Carl M. Smith, in 1946. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and red hair. She was considered the original super-mom by her family as she worked outside the home, was an accomplished cook, baker, knitter and seamstress, and made much of the clothing for her three daughters. She loved to travel and made many trips with family and friends.

In addition to her husband of 69 years, she is survived by four children: Kaye Taylor (Bob) of Highland Village, Texas; Susan Creel (Steve) of Atlanta, Georgia; Colin Smith (Kay) of North Little Rock and Carla Pearson (Gene) of Arlington, Texas. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren (seventh to arrive shortly) and sister-in-law, Virginia Piepke.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and love she received from Hospice Home Care and her caregiver, Trina Adrow.

The family will greet friends at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, AR (501) 224-8300, on Monday, April 13, 2015, from 6:00 to 7:30 followed by a Celebration of Kathleen's Life service at 7:30.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Arkansas Alzheimer's Association 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205.

I am the historian for the Wellston Alumni. Thank you for letting us know of your mother's passing. I have just read the obit and am impressed by her life. I remember her mother and dad and the grocery store that they ran when I was a child. Again thank you for letting us know.
