of Little Rock, AR
August 8, 1932 - February 11, 2015
Vance Leonard Broadaway, Jr., 82, of Little Rock went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. He was born on August 8, 1932 to Vance Leonard Broadaway, Sr. and Mildred Charlotte Keller Broadaway.
He leaves cherished memories to his loving wife of 60 years, Donna Jo Criner Broadaway; his three daughters and sons-in-law: Kelly Yoakam (Bob), Kristi Meiners (Steve), and Kathy Hogan (Joe); seven grandchildren: Amy Yoakam Van Hooser (Mike), Ryan Yoakam (McKayla), Katie Meiners Enlow (Jason), Annie Meiners Brown (Joshua), Caroline Meiners, Joseph Hogan, and Rebekah Jo Hogan; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Jacob P. Broadaway (Virginia).
Vance served his faith and family throughout his life. He was a founding member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, serving as a deacon for many years. He was a veteran of the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He co-owned a road construction company with his brother, Jake. Vance developed specialty machinery and products for use in road maintenance. Vance was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Society of Professional Engineers, and Tau Beta Pi.
He was generous with his smile and never met a stranger. An example of Christ's love, his kind, gentle, giving spirit, and his compassionate love will be greatly cherished and missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Searcy Children's Home, P.O. Box 1141, Searcy, AR 72145, (501)268-3243 or to Haiti Christian Development Project, PO Box 20119, Little Rock, AR 72221.
The funeral service will be at 12:30 P.M., Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, 10900 Rodney Parham Road, Little Rock, AR 72212, (501) 225-5818. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour prior to the service.
My heart goes out to Donna and the rest of the family. I took care of the Broadaway's yard for years. He always had something to smile about. I have found myself trying to emulate this trait because of him. He was one of my favorite customers ever. My employees also liked him very much and would speak to him often. His faith was obvious but he never told me he was a deacon. He is a great man.

We extend our sympathy and ask for God's blessings and comfort.
Love,
Liza, Chris, Fenley, and Henry Wright
Vance and I go back a long time. I was raised in the same Levy area as Vance. We played a lot together. I knew his Mom and Jake and Virginia well. His Mom was like a mother to me, She bought me a Red Plaid Dress (MY FIRST "STORE BOUGHT ONE") for my 6th birthday party. That was really a Pretty Dress.
I have had Vance on my mind a lot lately and wanted to call him but kept putting it off.Now it is too late. I have been sick a lot lately and in and out of the hospital or I would have been at the funeral.

Donna Jo and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I enjoyed getting to know Vance in our later years and wish we could have had more time together. I loved seeing the pictures posted on Roller's site, especially those of his younger years from the way I remembered Leonard and Jake. You have a beautiful family; something I know that Vance was so proud of.
Our prayers and thoughts of good memories of you and Leonard
Are strong with this sad news. What a blessing to be able to share sixty years of marriage. May you find some comfort in
Knowing our prayers will contiinue for you and your children .
Sincerely,
Walter and Barbara Bivens
