Charles B. CargillI am a Veteran.

of Maumelle, AR

April 6, 1928 - June 30, 2014

Charles B. Cargill, most often known as ''Charlie,'' met his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 30, 2014, while resting at home. He was 86 years old. Charlie resided in Maumelle, Arkansas since June of 2012, and in Angleton, Texas for the preceding 57 years.

Charlie was born to Bertha Jane and Artie B. Cargill, on April 6, 1928, at home, in Piggott, Arkansas. He had an older sister, Jane, and older twin brothers, Terry and Laws. After graduating from Piggott High School, Charlie served our country in the United States Navy from 1946 1948. Upon returning from his service, Charlie attended the University of Arkansas, in Fayetteville, AR where he studied Agricultural Engineering and played drums in the University band. On June 25, 1950, Charlie married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Miss Mary Helen Richardson (Baylor '50), in Kennett, MO. They began their married life together, in Fayetteville, AR. After moving to Angleton, TX, in 1955, Charlie spent 30 years working at Dow Chemical Company, in Freeport, TX. In addition to his primary responsibilities at Dow, he served as both safety and blood drive coordinator for his division for many years. Charlie, along with his wife and family, worshipped at First Baptist Church of Angleton, TX for 57 years. There, he served as a Sunday School teacher and as a deacon for a number of years. He was a coach and an officer in Little League when his sons were playing ball. He served on the City of Angleton's Planning and Zoning Commission for several years, and was also a member of the Angleton V.F.W. Charlie was a huge fan of most every sport, while his favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also enjoyed playing Bridge and dominoes, as well as spending time with his immediate and extended family.

Charlie's life was a powerful testimony of faithfulness, joy, patience, kindness, gentleness, thankfulness, contentedness, integrity, generosity, and, most of all, love. Our world lost a great man when Charlie left us; heaven gained a great saint when Charlie arrived.

He is remembered with love by his wife of 64 years, Mary Helen Cargill, residing in Maumelle, AR; his children: Keith (Kathleen) Cargill of Dallas, TX, Bruce (Barbara) Cargill of Tulsa, OK, Terry (Barbara) Cargill of The Woodlands, TX, Karen (Wayne) Pendleton of Maumelle, AR, and Cissie Cargill of Raleigh, NC; his beloved grandchildren: Ashley (Greg) Buechele, Spencer (Katherine) Cargill, Elise (Graham) Sharpe, Kevin Cargill, Chris Cargill, Chase Cargill, Blake Cargill, Connor Cargill, Nick Pendleton, and Kassie Pendleton; his great-granddaughter, Cosette Buechele; brothers-in-law: Dr. Paul (Janette) Richardson of The Woodlands, TX and Dr. Gene (Mary) Richardson of Lindale, TX; and a number of beloved nieces, nephews, and others. Charlie was predeceased by his mother, Bertha Jane Cargill; his father, Artie B. Cargill; his sister and her spouse, Jane (Allan) Kent; his twin brothers and spouses, Terry (Merle) Cargill and Laws (Thelma) Cargill; his nieces, Kay Cargill and Becky Keith; his nephew, Mike Cargill; and by a special cousin, Lt. Charles Zarling; as well as extended others.

Charlie's life will be celebrated on July 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Stonehaven, 101 Olympia Drive, Maumelle, Arkansas. Dr. Jim Agee will officiate the life celebration and burial tribute, Charlie's nephew, Mark Richardson will lead the music, and his grandsons: Spencer Cargill, Kevin Cargill, Chris Cargill, Chase Cargill, Blake Cargill, Connor Cargill, and Nick Pendleton will be his pallbearers. The United States Navy will honor Charlie at Riverwood Cemetery in Maumelle, Arkansas, following his life celebration on July 12, 2014.

In lieu of flowers, Charlie's family requests that donations be given in his memory to:

We are close friends of Charlie's son, Terry, his wife, Barbara, and their three sons. Over the years, we heard many wonderful stories of Papa...how he went to the local department store every Christmas eve to get his wife a special gift, how he grew the best tomatoes in his garden, but most of all that he was a wonderful man.

I have great memories of growing up next door to the Cargill family. I always think of Mr. Cargill when the Razorbacks play because I can still hear him calling out PIG SOOIE! He will be missed greatly by all. My prayers are with Mrs. Cargill and the rest of the family.

While I never met Charlie personally, I've had the privilege of knowing his son and daughter in law, Terry and Barbara, and their three sons for many years. The beautiful traits that characterized Charlie's life were surely passed down to his children and grandchildren and his legacy is indeed beautiful and lasting. May God bless you and keep you all.
