Jimmy Russell Sutterfield

of Greenbrier, AR

November 15, 1941 - June 8, 2018

Jimmy Russell Sutterfield, 76, of Greenbrier departed this life on Friday, June 8th to be with his heavenly father. He passed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, after a yearlong battle with cancer. He was born November 15, 1941 in Martinville to the late John and Willie Sutterfield. He is preceded in death by his sister Deloris "Jo" Tew, brother Larry Sutterfield, and son Charles "Charlie" Sutterfield.

Jim was a lifetime resident of Faulkner County, calling Greenbrier his home. He attended barber school and worked as a barber for 58 years. He was a devoted member of the Greenbrier church of Christ where he served as a deacon, song leader, and service director. He served as volunteer fire chief for 32 years. Jim had a love for people and a contagious sense of humor. He was a school bus driver, bookkeeper for basketball games, and involved in the high school rodeo for many years. He had a love for family, pets, sports, gardening, outdoors, travel, and great food. He considered his greatest blessings to be his family, although his generous way of living blessed everyone he knew.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his best friend and wife of 57 years, Floyma (Mills), son Steve Sutterfield (Susie Wright), daughter Susan Hall (Josh), brother Rick Sutterfield (Peggy), grandchildren, Heather Sutterfield, Emily Hillis, Kyle Hillis (Charlsey), Kirby Hillis, and one great grandchild Makyla Hillis.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday, June 11th at the Greenbrier church of Christ. A celebration of Jims life will be held at Greenbrier church of Christ on Tuesday, June 12th at 10:30 AM. Burial will immediately follow service at the Martinville cemetery.

Our family held Jimmy in very high regard as my father, Wallace Scott, drove weekly, for many years, to Greenbrier to get his haircut. Jimmy would give him just the exact trim his thinning hair needed, charge him a few dollars, and send him on his way. I’m sure they discussed politics, world situations, and exchanged a few jokes. Jimmy’s name was a household word. When Jimmy surprised our family by attending Daddy’s funeral, we knew the respect and admiration was mutual. We know this world has lost a wonderful man, and we grieve with you. Please accept our deepest sympathy.

Jim gave me my first haircut when I was little.. he told me I knocked nearly everything off his shelf and my mother couldn't stop apologizing. As an adult he cut my hair on occasion and I once told him to have a good day... he responded with " what if I don't want to?" ... I told him he had earned the right to have whatever kind of day he wanted

Our hearts are sad because we selfishly would like to keep Mr. Jimmy here longer with us but we are rejoicing that he is no longer in pain and that he is resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus. We have so many special memories of him helping Ms. Floyma take care of our children as they grew. He and his family will always have a special place in our hearts. Praying for strength and peace. Love you all--Burgess Family

What cannot be said about Mr. Jim! Always a part of our great little town of Greenbrier. A great Christian, Husband, Father, Brother, Friend to very many friends all over. So many haircuts, Fire runs as Fire Chief, Bus runs and students growing up in our schools, ball games, so many things that Mr. Jim has been involved in, making our town his home. A great family, we are lifting all of you in our thoughts and prayers; prayers of love and support for all of you. Mr. Jim will be terribly missed, and be remembered by everyone who he touched with his life. Faithful servant to his home church. Such a sweet soul. He has no pain, no more suffering, he is with His Savior, will be watching over all of you and will meet you at Heaven’s Gate. Rest In Peace Mr. Jim.
