August 2, 1939 - July 23, 2012

Jessie L. LaFontaine, 72, of Greenbrier, was called home to join her loved ones in Heaven on Monday, July 23, 2012. She was born on August 2, 1939, in Tranquility, California,, to the late Ancel L. and Eva (Fulp) Shirley.

She lived and worked all around the country through her life time. After 30 years of banking, to the surprise of her family, she joined her second husband in a career in long haul trucking which she enjoyed as a way to see the country. Her enjoyment, besides her family, was the fellowship with the women at the Church of Christ in Greenbrier. She also loved to crochet beautiful afghans and pot holders, with a specific person in mind to add a personal touch.

She is survived by her daughter Eva (Strain) DeTurck and husband Dirk of Greenbrier; two grandsons: Isaac (Rhonda) DeTurck and Jacob (Ashley) DeTurck, both of Conway; two great grandchildren: Seth and Katelin and two step-great grandchildren, Lauren and Riley; brothers: Gaston (Marilyn) Shirley, of Fresno, CA and Atherd Shirley of Boise, ID; sisters: Lou Sievers of Fresno, CA, Marlene( James) Hendrix of Ukiah, CA, Wanda (Walt) Klippel of Crothersville, IN, Marnell (Jack) McNutt of Bakersfield, CA and Toromotha Scott of Boise, ID and the many relatives from such an extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband ,James L. Strain; second husband, Paul LaFontaine, a brother Mitchell Shirley and a sister Joyce Dodge.

The family wishes to sincerely Thank Glen Elliott and all the women of the Church of Christ in Greenbrier. All the Hospice caregivers, and the wonderful women who provided care and comfort to Jessie over the last few years.

Service will be held at 10:00 am, on Friday, July 27, at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The interment will take place at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, July 28, at Thacker Cemetery near Clarkridge, AR. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greenbrier Church of Christ.

I am very sorry to read about your mom's passing. I knew her for one year while she was in Baker City working for Baker College. I was in your home many times as your uncle Atherd was a good friend of my family. He went into the service but we maintained friendship with your mom until Baker closed its doors in May 1969. I remember you mom as a very kind and dedicated Christian and devoted mother.

Eva,
You are the best daughter that anyone could spend their last years with. You and your family have taken such good care of your mom and in my visit to your home I had the opportunity to chat with your mom and she always praised you and told me how thankful she was for you and your family.
She is happy now.

Miss Jessie was a wonderful Christian woman and a friend to all who met her. She was so wonderful to my son, Kevin. He cherishes the beautiful afghan that she made for him and the lovely pot holders that she made when we built our new home. Heaven just got a little more special! May God's peace surround you all as you go through this difficult time. In His love, Eric and Kevin Glover.
