Thomas Lee Munyon

of Algona, WA

April 20, 1963 - May 31, 2017

Thomas Lee Munyon A Funeral service to celebrate the life of Tom Munyon, 54, of Algona, WA, will be held at 10:00A.M. Friday June, 9th at Roller-Cox funeral home in Clarksville, Arkansas. Burial will be held at Woodland Cemetery. A local memorial service in Seattle will be hosted by Laurie LeBlanc at a later date. Tom was born in North Bend, OR April 20, 1963 to Henryetta Sears Belcher and Thomas Lee Munyon. He grew up in North Bend, OR and graduated from North Bend High School class of 1981 (Bulldog Pride Inside!); he was a standout wrestler and football player. After graduation, he went to Southern Oregon State College in Ashland, OR and played football. Upon graduation he moved to Eugene, OR to pursue his masters in marketing. However, while working at Seneca Sawmill during the summer in Eugene he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma a bone cancer. He then moved to Seattle and battled the cancer for four years and then was pronounced cancer free. He went to work for Genie for about 8 years and on to TSA in November of 2003 and has been there ever since. Tom was a hard worker and loved his family very much. He never married but had a significant other- Laurie LeBlanc. He loved his nieces very much. He attended graduations, weddings, birthdays and family functions. He was always up for a good, long hike and enjoyed travelling with his girlfriend Laurie. Despite his cancer diagnosis, he was an optimistic person and always had a joke or a smile for everyone. Three years ago, his dad had a stroke and Tom took family leave to stay with his dad for 6 months. He then moved his dad to a facility closer to home so that he was able to visit every day after work. While caring for his dad, November 14th 2014 he found himself having a hard time swallowing food. Tom put his own health on hold to take care of his dad; however, April 2015, after numerous tests, he found out he had throat cancer. Another journey was about to begin. After Tom buried his dad and his younger sister in June 2015, he started chemotherapy and radiation to combat the throat cancer. Once again, he was declared cancer free after 3 months treatment. However, during follow up visits the toll on his body began to become evident. Complications and severe symptoms arose. Tom passed away May 31 at Harborview hospital after a weekend of surgeries to no avail. He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his father Thomas Lee Munyon and his sister Donna Munyon Hyman. He is survived by mother Henryetta Belcher (Don) of Clarksville, AR, sisters Debbie Munyon Gray of Coos Bay, OR and Dana Munyon Bergstrom (Dave) of Spokane, WA and brothers Mark Smith (Janell) of Dallas, TX, Mike Smith (Melissa) of Moro, OR, Kyle Smith of Winston, OR, Ron Munyon of Spokane, WA, uncles Houston Sears (Cathy) of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Kerry Sears of Clarksville, AR, and aunt Debbie Sears of Clarksville, AR. Tom will be laid to rest next to his sister Donna in Clarksville, Arkansas.

Several of us were floored at learning of Tom's passing. Our prayers and condolences go out to the family. These days it's hard to place a person usually just by a name but this was not the case with Tom. He was a pleasure to work with and I considered him a friend as well as a co-worker. He will be sorely missed.

Thomas was an asset to TSA. He was well liked and respected by his fellow co-workers and management. Peace and comfort to his family, friends, and all that loved and cared for him.

I am absolutely heart broken. I remember Tommy's smile when he was a child growing up in Coos Bay. He was a cute little boy who grew into a handsome man. He was polite and gracious. I am saddened that my Munyon family is getting smaller.
