William Earl Hayes, Jr., age 74 died Monday, April 06, 2015, in Clarksville. Born in Dermott, Ar., November 18, 1940 to William Earl 'Bill' Hayes, Sr. and Martha Louise Gray Hayes. He was preceded in death by twin daughters Sarah Diane and Kay Lynn Hayes, his father William Earl 'Bill' Hayes, Sr., and two brothers-in-law William 'Bill' Laffoon and Darrell Russell. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Wilma Laffoon Hayes; son, Michael Paul Hayes; mother Martha Louise Gray Hayes, sister Mary Jane Russell, sister-in-law Sherry Laffoon Heaton, 3 grandchildren Nicole Elizabeth, Ethan William, and Ezri Louise Hayes, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is a graduate of Hartman High School in 1958. Received a B.S. degree from University of the Ozarks in 1963, received a NASA grant for Science and Mathematics. Attended University of Arkansas and graduated with a M.E.D. degree in mathematics in 1967. Mr. Hayes taught at Pine Bluff High School, Fort Smith High School, and Independence High in Kansas City. He was assistant professor of Mathematics at Upper Iowa College in Fayette, Iowa. He taught at Parkview High School Little Rock and part-time instructor at University of Arkansas Little Rock. He was assistant principal at Dunbar Jr. High School in Little Rock, Principal at Westside High School, and Principal at Oark High School. After 28 years in education, he retired to farming and ranching and was a part-time postal employee for Hartman. He was a life-long member of the Hartman United Methodist Church and his life will be celebrated by a viewing from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at Roller Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville on Wednesday, April 8. Funeral service will be at Hartman United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 9, at 2p.m. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery in Clarksville. Officiating the services will be Pastor Regina Turner of the Hartman United Methodist Church in Hartman, Ar., Brother Will Russell of Friendship Baptist Church in Conway, Ar., and Brother Richard Snyder of Knoxville First Baptist Church in Knoxville, Ar. Pallbearers are Kenny Walker, Eric Laffoon, John Laffoon, Matt Russell, Clark Gray, and Ricky Hurst. Honorary Pall Bearers are Jim Terrell, Charlie Hughes, Bill Hughes, and Randy Hurst. Mr. Hayes was my teacher at Parkview HS in Little Rock. He was also a neighbor and was always so friendly. He obviosly touched a lot of lives. I am sorry for your loss.

I am saddened and shocked by this news. Mr Hayes was my principal when I was in High School at Westside and he always had a smile on his face. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. He will be missed.
