of Benton, AR
March 4, 1927 - February 14, 2018
Raymond Eugene Thomas, age 90, passed from this life on February 14, 2018. Raymond was born March 4, 1927 to the late Oscar and Stella Thomas. He was a lifelong resident of Benton, and a successful businessman with an uncanny ability to make friends.
In 1946, Raymond married the love of his life, Veda Jo Hall. After serving time in the U.S. Navy they settled in Benton to raise a family. For the next 71 years he gave to his family, and to his community. Raymond was especially dedicated to his church, First Baptist Church in Benton, where he served in many capacities, including the building committee. He was also very proud of his Naval service in both World War II and Korea.
Preceding Raymond in death were his parents; siblings, Berneice, Frances, Clyde, and Gerry Vonne; and son, Steve.
He is survived by his wife, Jo; sister, Freda; sons, Bruce and Beau; grandchildren, Ashley, Derek, Kacie, and Emma; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caring individuals at the VA Hospice, Saline Hospice, and private care providers.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 19, in the Worship Center of First Baptist Church in Benton with Dr. Rick Grant officiating. A private graveside will follow at a later date.
Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m in the Selph Hall of First Baptist Church in Benton.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Raymond's honor to either the First Baptist Church Building Fund (211 S. Market St.), Saline Memorial Hospice House (23157 I-30 Frontage Rd), or to the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library (1800 Smithers Dr.)
We have such fond memories of Mr. Raymond. You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this time.
