He and his family moved to Benton in 1972 when he became a coach for Benton High School. After one year he moved into administration. He received his MSE from Henderson and his Specialist Degree in Administration for the U of A Fayetteville while serving as assistant principal at Benton High School. He then moved to Benton Junior High as principal when Eastside and Westside Jr. Highs were combined. He served there until his retirement.

Alan and I were high school classmates, playing all kinds of sports together. He was always the toughest one of us. But he never lost that crazy grin of his. He was a wonderful guy, and I will miss him greatly. My deepest sympathies to Lana and the family.

As part of the 1966 Henderson Reddie football team Alan was fleet of foot and an inspiration. Dependable in all ways, talented, but humble. Number 23 never slowed up, known as the Ever Ready Man, he just kept going. A gentleman, thoughtful, and never said an unkind word to anyone that I can remember, or even about anyone.
His memory is will live on with all of us....
