Eliza Bernice Dale Harrison

of Fayetteville, AR

July 7, 1923 - March 16, 2016

Eliza Bernice Dale Harrison, age 92 years, formally of Benton, Arkansas, and wife of the late JB Harrison, Jr., died March 16, 2016 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was born in Saline County, Arkansas on July 7, 1923 to the late Geraldine Spurrier Dale and Robert Huey Arter Dale. Bernice was one of 8 brothers and sisters whom she survived.

Bernice is survived by her 2 daughters, Jan Harrison Shaddox and husband Dr. Truman Stephen Shaddox of Springdale, Arkansas and Hilda Harrison and husband Dennis Wayne Powell of Jacksonville, Florida, 2 grandchildren Benjamin Shaddox and wife Nicole from Fayetteville, Arkansas and Jonathan Shaddox and wife Meredith from Springdale, Arkansas, and 5 great grandchildren, Cade, Lydia, Ava, Truman, and Madison Shaddox.

Bernice grew up on a self-sustaining family farm near Benton, Arkansas raising chickens, cows, their own garden, and driving a wagon as transportation to the nearby communities. She attended Bauxite High School where she played on the basketball team. Bernice came to faith in Jesus as a young girl and was baptized in the Saline River near her country church in the Shaw Community outside of Benton. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Benton and a member of the Ruth Sunday School class for 65 years. Bernice was also a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, and Lion's Club Lioness in Benton where she and her husband owned and operated Harrison Furniture Store and Harrison Funeral Home. Bernice loved traveling to see God's world and enjoyed her explorations of the Panama Canal, Jamaica, Europe, Greece, Puerto Rico, many of the 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii and her favorite place, Israel, which she visited over 15 times.

Bernice's faith of 86 years became sight as her Jesus silently came and took her to Himself Wednesday morning while her daughters were reflecting on Proverbs 31. Proverbs 31:30 sums up her daughters' view of their mother: ''Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.'' Bernice was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend, leader and servant of all. She was a woman of noble character, a woman of excellence, and a woman who reflected Jesus.

A memorial service for Bernice will be held on Friday, March 18 at 2:00pm in the BILD Training Center Chapel at Fellowship Bible Church NWA, Rogers, Arkansas. Visitation will be from 2-4pm on Sunday, March 20th at Roller Ballard Funeral Home in Benton, Arkansas with graveside service on Monday, March 21st at 11:00am at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander, Arkansas.

Jan,

I read your Mother's obituary in the Democrat-Gazette this morning. I don't know if you even remember me. I was a classmate of yours in Benton in elementary school and at Riggs School of Dance. I moved away in 6th grade. I am very sorry for your loss. I lost my Mother in 2014 as well. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. I remember your mother from the furniture store and playing with you there. With deepest sympathy, Pat Walker
