John C. Martin, 89, of Oil Trough, died Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at White River Medical Center.

He was born in Independence County, Arkansas on June 13, 1926 and was the son of Thomas and Estine (Loggains) Martin.

He was a World War II veteran having served in the Marine Corp. He was a member of the Oil Trough Church of Christ.

He was a graduate of Cushman High School and attended Arkansas College (now Lyon College). He spent one year as a school teacher at Oil Trough before going to work for
Revere Copper and Brass at Newport. After a 33 year career, he retired. He was a cattleman and he enjoyed working outdoors, especially gardening. He was also a Arkansas Razorback football and basketball fan. Above all else he enjoyed spending quality time with his family.

Survivors include three sons, Tommy Martin of Newark, John Martin and his life partner, Thomas Strange, of Newport, Rick Martin and his wife, Cathy of Union Hill; two grandchildren, Sloan Fulbright and her husband, Steven, of Jonesboro, and Shane Martin and wife, Kim, of Searcy; and one great-grandchild, Hannah Martin of Searcy. He is also survived by four nieces, Leota Allen of Batesville, Barbara Robertson of Minden, LA, Mildred Winkle of Batesville, and Nancy Branham of Kathleen, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jackie (Beard) Martin; three brothers, Jim, Forrest, and Wesley Martin; and two sisters, Virginia Kimmer and Grace Winkle.

The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Roller-Crouch Chapel with Craig Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
