Mildred A Jerome

of West Memphis, AR

May 2, 2015

Mildred Ann ''Mamie'' Jerome passed quietly from this life in the early morning of Saturday, May 2, 2015, at her home in West Memphis, AR. She was preceded in death in 1975 by her husband Dr. Quentin Ross Jerome and the first licensed veterinarian in Crittenden County, AR. She is survived by her two daughters Jere Jerome Welch (Jimmy) and Jan Jerome Williams (Rodger) both of West Memphis, four grandchildren Carmen Carr (Jason), Brandon Webb (Stephanie), Amy Hall (Bubba), and Cailen Williams, and nine great-grandchildren and one on the way. She also leaves behind her dear friend and companion Elois Rhodes whose devoted care for so many years made her one of the family.
After her granddaughter Carmen called her ''Mamie,'' all of her closest friends and family followed suit. Mamie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of West Memphis for many years. But those that remember Mamie best will recall how Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals games were in continual rotation on her massive floor console TV throughout the summers. They will also remember a Mah Jong enthusiast, a 20 Club member, and a master storyteller. Most of all, family and friends will remember Mamie sitting on the steps of her fishing pier at Horseshoe Lake waiting patiently for a crappie bite.
Many wonderful caregivers spent countless days and evenings in Mamie's home over the years. To them, the family would like to say ''thank you.'' They ensured that we had Mamie in our lives for a few more days before she went home to be with Daddy after 40 years and go fishing once again.
A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, May 5th at Crittenden Memorial Park.

I had the honor of being Ms. Jerome's home health nurse for many years. I looked forward to each visit, she always shared such interesting stories about her past and the history of West Memphis and Wilson. She found out I was from Wilson and we enjoyed talking about the past. I will greatly miss her, thank you Ms. Jerome for allowing me to be in your life.
