of Conway, AR
July 4, 1920 - August 20, 2014
B. J. St. John, 94, passed away 8/20/14. He was born in Kingsland, July 4, 1920 to Alberta and Bewford St. John and grew up in Watson Chapel. His first job was as a plantation accountant in Pickens. He then moved to Stuttgart, where he was in business for several years before he became a banker at Farmer's & Merchant's Bank and then ended his working life as a tax accountant. He married Alma Wadsworth on April 22, 1939 and they lived most of their lives in Stuttgart. They moved from Stuttgart to Conway in Oct. of 2003.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Claude St. John and Al St. John, and one son-in-law, Jim Hoggard. He is survived by his loving wife, Alma, of 75 years; two daughters, Susan Hoggard of Conway and Kay (husband Sandy) Blackard of Decatur, AL, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a nephew in Texas and three very special friends, Harry Lindsey of Pine Bluff, Billy Simpson and Burk Buerkle, both of Stuttgart. He has donated his body to science so there will not be a funeral service. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to Grace United Methodist Church of Conway, 1075 Hogan Lane, Conway, AR 72034.
Wanted you to know that we were thinking of you through your time of sadness. Have missed you and Mr. St. John since you left Stuttgart.
So sorry for your loss. Mr. St. John liked to take care of his yard and when I first moved in next to him, we would often be out doing yard work together. I never competed with him, because his yard was always perfect:) He would often wave and say something like "it just keeps growing back, huh?" I feel blessed to have known him and his sweet wife (who has made me fatter with her great desserts:) ). Condolences, Dr. Mitch Collins
Ms. Alma, Kay, and Susan,
Mom asked that I include her thoughts of you along with mine at this difficult time. We are both so happy that we were able to visit with Mr. B.J. and all of you last year. Our friendships over the years have been very special to us.
