of Sage, AR
November 23, 1930 - July 29, 2014
Eugene Jennings, 83, of Sage died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in Little Rock.
He was born at home in Zion, Arkansas on November 23, 1930 to John F. Jennings and Grace (Wiles) Jennings.
He retired from Boeing Aircraft after 27 years of service which paid for his real occupation and love of working on the farm with his cows. Together with his son, David, they took care of the farm. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in Fort Polk, LA where he met the love of his life, Shirley Ann Jernigan. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Southern Baptist Church but also enjoyed attending and making friends at Cornerstone Baptist Church and other sister churches. Southern Gospel music was his favorite, especially when attending the Sunday afternoon singings with his buddies. He felt that his biggest accomplishment in life was his family, who followed his example of loving the Lord and obeying and serving in the churches they attend.
He is survived by one son, David Jennings and his wife, Bonita of Sage; one daughter, Caren Smith and her husband, Donnie also of Sage; four grandchildren, Joshua Jennings, Jessica Johnson, Blake Smith, and Cara Smith; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter Jennings, Gracie Johnson, Kaylee Jennings, Lilly Johnson, Faith Johnson, Blake Howard, and Chase Arnold. He is also survived by one brother, Ancil Jennings and his wife, Donna of Wichita, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley Jernigan Jennings, one brother, Junius Jennings, and five sisters: Lola Campbell, Nadine Copeland, Marion Jenkins, Lenora McDaniel, and Johnice Jennings.
Pallbearers will be Josh Jennings, Blake Smith, Mark Copeland, Tim Jennings, Terry Jennings, Tom Johnson, Danny Campbell, and Gary Rundell.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Roller-Crouch Chapel in Melbourne with David Jennings and Marcus Copeland officiating. Burial will follow at Caney Springs Cemetery in Sage under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
I was born in a house that stood at the "Y" at Zion. Eugene was a fine young man in his early years when we went to school together. He came from a devout Christian family. I look forward to seeing him beyond the River.
David, Caren and family,
You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Eugene was a wonderful, respected, Christian man! We enjoyed serving he Lord with him and his friendship. He was such a sweet, tender-hearted man and he will be missed by us and many more!
