October 11, 1936 - July 21, 2014

John Victor Spurrier of Wooster, AR, ended his battle with Parkinson's disease on Monday, July 21, 2014 at 4:45am. He was born in Pratt, Kansas on October 11, 1936 the second son born to George T. Spurrier and Cecilia Stegman Spurrier.
Johnny, as he was known at Greenbrier High School, drew the artwork for the first Panther mascot. After graduation in 1954 he joined the United States Navy and proudly served for 10 years as an airplane mechanic. After leaving the Navy, he settled in Wooster, Arkansas where he raised two daughters with his wife, Donna.
John worked for J.A. Riggs Tractor Company in Little Rock as a diesel mechanic until 1999 when he retired. He worked briefly for Moro Construction while they built the roadway that is now Maumelle Boulevard.
In 1986 he married his wife, Dean Spurrier. They have lived in Wooster since then. John was a classic car enthusiast with the Vilonia Cruisers, travelling around to car shows and working on restoration and enjoying the fellowship of like minded friends. He also enjoyed dancing with the Conway Two-Steppers and is remembered as a great dancer with a smooth glide.
On June 1, 2014 with a great gathering of friends and family, John accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. We are pleased to know that he is spending his eternity in Heaven and we look forward to seeing him again.
John is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Alice Zook. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dean Spurrier. He also leaves to remember him, daughters Nila Lambert (John) of Conway, Lessie Redican (Kevin) of Wooster, Ann Michelle Johnson of Las Vegas, NV, and Debi Johnson (Chris Turnbow) of Memphis, TN. Five grandchildren, John Lambert, Cecilia Creasman (Matthew), Sean Redican (Nancy), Seth Redican (Lauren) and Lessie Sharon Redican. He has three great grandchildren, Stephen Redican, Caitlyn Redican and Everly Rose Redican. There are two brothers, George A. Spurrier (Virginia) of Greenbrier, AR and Richard A. Spurrier (Barbara) of Meridian, MS, and a large circle of extended family and friends.
We would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Walter Metzer, Dr. Paul Zelnick, Home Instead, Hospice Homecare, Shannon Allen and Carol Barnes for the excellent care and friendship they provided to John in his journey with Parkinson's disease.
As John directed, there will be no funeral services. His body will be cremated and a Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at a later date that the family will announce. We appreciate all your prayers and well wishes, and invite you to make a donation to Parkinson's disease Foundation for research if you would like.
