John Charles McCown, Sr., age 79, of Benton, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012. He was born March 17, 1933 in Little Rock to the late Earl Mitchell McCown, Sr. and Edith Cutrell McCown. Mr. McCown was a US Marine Corp Ssgt. Korean War Veteran, a retired US Army SGM Veteran, and a SGM in the Army National Guard. He served as a patrolman for the Little Rock Police Department and served as a police officer for the Saline County Sheriff’s Department, which included the CID department. Many of his loves included building and flying model airplanes, cooking, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda Fay McCown; one son, John Charles McCown Jr.; two daughters, Susan Terrie Rumfield and husband, Jason of Hot Springs and Kimberly Ann Deutscher and husband, David; five grandchildren, Daren McCown, Dillion McCown, Danyelle McCown, Dalayna Cornwall, and Riley Allen; one sister, Carolyn Mays of Florida; two brothers, Alfred McCown of Little Rock and Earl McCown Jr. of Mississippi; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton (501-315-4047) with Bro. Bill Howard officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. Serving as pallbearers will be Bruce Pennington, Sandy Romeo, Mike Frost, Bill Fields, Mike Holt, and David Smith. Honorary pallbearers are John McCown Jr., Daren McCown, Dillion McCown, and David Deutscher.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Friday, July 13, 2012 at the funeral home.
