Cam Crocker
October 28, 1932 - November 20, 2009
Cam Crocker, 77, of Conway died peacefully Friday November 20 of complications from Alzheimer’s. He was born October 28, 1932, in Cleburne County, Arkansas, and was the son of the late Carl and Luna Stark Crocker. Cam was also preceded in death by sisters Euple Crocker, Eunice Hatfield and an infant sister, and brothers Eulas Crocker, Roy Crocker, Ted Crocker and Jim Humphrey Crocker. Cam was a war hero. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart while serving as Sergeant in the Army 5th RTC Infantry during the Korean Conflict in 1951. While saving his buddy’s life, Cam was shot eleven times and left for dead on a cold Korean battlefield. The North Koreans exchanged him for one of their prisoners that same day, thus saving his life. Cam was often in pain, but always had a smile and never complained. He was proud to have served his country. Even though he was 100% disabled by his war wounds, Cam enjoyed “puttering” around in his shop. He kept the family well supplied with bird feeders and birdhouses.
Cam also enjoyed maintaining his property north of Conway. He was a Missionary Baptist.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mabel Jean Crocker; two children, Retha Junyor and husband Robert Junyor of Conway, and Gary Crocker and wife Pat Valachovic Crocker of Miami, FL; a sister, Millie Sachs of Georgetown, OH; and a brother, Loyd Crocker, of Rock Falls, IL.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 24, at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, with the Reverend Doyle Glass officiating. Internment will be at Crestlawn Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Mike Loveless, L. G. Reynolds, Billy Bert Stark, Jeremy Mallett, David Reynolds and Raymond Luyet. Honorary pallbearers are Roy Spiller, Bobby Reynolds and Keller Reynolds. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, at the funeral home, 801 8th Avenue, Conway, AR 72032, 501-327-7727.
