Michael Szabo

Michael Szabo, 83, of Magazine, Arkansas died November 2, 2009.
He was born November 20, 1925 in Burke,West Virginia to Steven and Catharine Kroneker Szabo. Mike was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retiree of the U.S. Postal Service, a Christian and member of the Magazine First United Methodist Church, a member of the American Legion and past Post and District Commander, a member of the VFW and Disbled Veterans, Bigelow Masonic Lodge and NARF. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Elaine Schmidt Szabo.

He is survived by two daughters, Deborah Swerline and husband Stephen of Warsaw, Missouri and Susan Plummer and husband David of Fort Smith; three sisters, Helen McCaffrey and Barbara Norris both of Ohio and Julin Pierce of Louisiana; one brother, Andrew Szabo of Ohio; a significant other, Carma Olson of Booneville; three grandchildren, Kathryn Kohl and James of Victorville, California, Robert Mayo of Magazine and Timothy Mayo and Jessica of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; one great-grandson, Trenten Mayo of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Pallbearers will be Robert Mayo, Timothy Mayo, James Kohl, David Plummer, Stephen Swerline and David Blackburn; honorary pallbearers, Rick Mayo and LCS 91 Shipmates.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 6, 2009 at Magazine First United Methodist Church with burial at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Smith National Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Booneville Funeral Service of Booneville.
