Raymond Charles Miller

of Little Rock, AR

December 1, 1942 - July 21, 2008

Raymond Charles Miller, of Little Rock, Arkansas, went home to be with his heavenly Father on July 21, 2008. He was born on December 1, 1942 in York, Pennsylvania, to the late Earl and Louise Hughes Miller. Ray graduated from Central Baptist College. He received his Masters from University of Central Arkansas, and his Ph.D. from Northwestern College. He had been a pastor for 40 years and was a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Frances Strubinger.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 42 years, Sharon Stephens Miller; two sons, Tim Miller, and his wife April, and Joe Miller, of Little Rock, Arkansas; brother, Leon Crimmons, and his wife, Dawn of Scottsdale, Arizona; sister Dorothy Ruth of York, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Maxton, Lela and Canon.

Pastor Miller lived his life to the Glory of God and in whole-hearted service to others. He was a man of the highest integrity who lived at home what he preached in public. His highest calling and privilege was as a pastor and teacher.

He preached his first sermon in 1958 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in York, Pennsylvania and his last at the hospital the day before his death. The themes of his life and teachings were Grace, Sovereignty and the Goodness of God. His greatest desire was that all would come to know, love, and serve God to their fullest capacity.

His ministry began in 1968 when Pastor Miller along with his wife Sharon moved to Conway, Arkansas, and founded Conway Chapel, Christian Family Center, an inter-denominational church. During his time in Conway, he was active in the Conway Ministerial Alliance and his passion was for "brethren to dwell together in unity".

He also worked tirelessly abroad with his friends at RETO building over 40 drug centers in Spain and ministering to the thousands of leaders who have taken in over 300,000 outcasts.

Pastor Miller considered it a privilege to be in the ministry and said his greatest help came from his wife, Sharon, who was always loyal and helpful and stabilized his ministry and family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Fellowship Bible Church, 1051 Hogan Lane, Conway, Arkansas, with Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, (501)224-8300 assisting. Private interment will be at Riverwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the atrium at Fellowship Bible Church.

Aunt Sharon, Tim and Joe,

Uncle Ray was a wonderful man whose life touched many others. I wish we could have known one another better. But, no matter the physical distance between us....the heart never forgets. Thinking of all of you and praying that God's grace and peace will help carry you through this difficult time. Hoping these scriptures might help comfort you... II Corinth 5:1-10.
Love and my deepest sympathy,

Dear Sharon, Tim, & Joe,

I was deeply saddened to hear that Pastor Miller had moved on from this life. He gracefully carried out his call to lead others in God's Truth with wisdom, with compassion, and with an undeterred resolve to fulfill God's purpose for his life.

Through the years, you guys have played such an important role in his ministry. I appreciate so much the way you opened your hearts and your home at Conway Chapel & the academy so that folks like me could walk that wonderful trail to Christ that Pastor was blazing. I grew up in the shadow of his enormous wingspan. Thank you for sharing that with me.

Although his passing resonates a lonely sadness in our hearts, there's a celebration for him and his new life that bursts out with joy that can't be contained.

I grieve with you, and I celebrate with you.

"Way over yonder is a place that I know where I can find shelter from hunger & cold. And the sweet tasting good life is so easily found. Way over yonder, that's where I'm bound.

And I know when I get there, the first thing I see is the sun shining golden - shining right down on me. And trouble's gonna lose me. Worry leave me behind. And I'll stand up proudly in true peace of mind." - Carole King

Pastor Miller is standing in that true peace of mind with no worries, no troubles. May you also stand in it now and always.

Much, much love to you.

Pastor Miller was so very kind to me. He was an incredibly generous man, and through that generosity, many doors were opened and many opportunities created for an untold amount of grateful individuals such as myself. We’ll never know the great number of lives he touched until we’re with him in heaven. (I love you, Pastor. Thank you so very much for all you‘ve done.)

Sharon, I love you, too, and I know that if you lean on the LORD, HE will carry you back into the joy of life. Until that day and even beyond, remember you and your beautiful family remain in my prayers.
GOD bless and bring you comfort and peace. Eph. 3:14-19

I have had the rare opportunity to become friends with a man that was a friend to me from the day I met him. Ray was the salt of this earth. An incredible human being with compassion, heart, and wisdom to share with all of us. He had a way that I have always been drawn to and this is why I have been blessed to have this experience and friendship.

I will miss him walking by our home in the mornings. I will miss the talks and wisdom he shared with me. I will miss him backing up the hill to see if I was sitting in my in-home office. I so looked for him, when I was there. This was the person who, with all he had on his mind, would always put others first....and consider other people's feelings.

I cannot express the sorrow I feel with the loss of Ray. He has been such a rock in my life. There are few in this world like him.

My heart is heavy with sadness and happiness....a strange feeling. I cry for the days I will not be spending with Ray and rejoice in the fact that he is waiting for all of us to come and be with him again.

I will see you again my friend...in God's time. Boy, will we have some catching up to do.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Sharon and the boys. If you should need anything, please let us know.

My family came to join Conway Chapel in 1976, and it only took one visit to know we were "home". We were
all young then, so we had our babies, grew our families, and together we learned about God's Word, marriage, raising children, finance, healthy living, and so much more. We were bonded forever! Pastor and Sharon provided such practical life skills. We laughed, and cried, and learned together, but the foundation was always the Word and our God.

Pastor Miller, you walked with me through my life's darkest days and shared my highest highs. I always felt "safe" within your tiny inviting office (with kleenex). I was honored to stand by your side in anointed worship as the Holy Spirit often filled the sanctuary and fell upon God's people, preparing hearts for the hearing of God's Word for which you were destined and chosen to do so well. Those days were never to be repeated quite like that again. You were my Pastor, my teacher, my counselor, my covering, my brother, and my friend. I will miss you deeply.

Sharon, I have always thought the "Light of Heaven" shines on your face. Perhaps now, a little more. Tim and Joe, we watched you grow along with our own children and appreciate the young men you are. I feel like you're mine. Know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers, and, in case you haven't known, you always have been.

Love,

I will miss his 3 point sermons that became 12 week series. I will miss hearing him refer to "dropping your watermelon" and all his corny jokes that might not have been funny, but his laugh made you laugh too.

He was truly a man who understood the work that God had appointed for him and in all the years I knew and loved him he never faultered in that calling. Sharon, his "face was set like a flint".
I love you all,
Terri

I love you guys (Sharon, Tim and Joe). I recall so many fond memories growing up with you all. Free food (lol), ping pong, music, basketball, church and late night gross food eating contests with Tim and Joe.

Pastor Miller was like a second father to me and helped my family out when nobody else would bother.

He is home now having completed his mission. He is happy, pain free and sitting at the right hand of God. I will forever be grateful for all he has done for me. He was truly a man of God.

I love you Sharon, Tim and Joe.

Take care,

Tim Roland

Pastor Ray Miller was an awesome Pastor! Teaching Gods word was of utmost importance as well as living it was his goal. We started knowing Ray when we were in college. He married us and saw Sherry and I through many major things in our lives. We are praying for Sharon, Tim and Joey and their families.

Pastor Miller and his family were instrumental in my life in so many ways. ... through my parents and through their love and support they showed me during a very difficult time in my life. They opened their home to me. Pastor Miller is an amazingly loving person who gave me such hope. I am sending love from Virginia.

What a special man Pastor Ray Miller was! He taught us to love God, love His Word and to love others. He was our Pastor for 15 years and we loved and respected him so much! We pray strength and comfort for Sharon and her sweet sons.
