Delbert Lee Dawson

of Mayflower, AR

May 5, 1943 - April 23, 2024

Delbert Dawson, 80, died Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Baptist Health Hospital in Conway, Arkansas.

Delbert was born in Rector, Arkansas to Earl and Ethelene Dawson on May 5, 1943. He graduated from Greenway High School in 1961 and shortly after he wed his high school sweetheart, Sue Grimes.

Following graduation, he pursued a multifaceted career path. His most recent job was the Facilities Operation Manager at the Little Rock Zoo. Aside from working at the zoo, Delbert built houses through his companies Handy Man Inc. and Dawson Developers. Through his diligent work in the building community, he attained a position as the President of the Arkansas Homebuilders Association.

Delbert was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. You could find Delbert watching any Razorback game he could. He was even able to transport Tusk to the games when he worked at the zoo, a job he took great pride in.

Delbert was a quiet servant that consistently observed and learned from others. His servanthood was displayed in his love for woodworking, spending time with his grandchildren, being a member of Mayflower First Baptist Church and serving the city of Mayflower. Although he had a quiet spirit, his voice was always heard. When he spoke, everyone appeared to listen to his every word, in an attempt to gain the wealth of knowledge that he possessed.

Delbert was the observer out of the duo that his wife, Sue Dawson and him made. While she loves to talk to anyone and everyone, he often watched her and listened to her comments and requests. There were often jokes made that Delbert and Sue could not be more different, but their opposite natures made a marriage last 63 years. Delbert's quiet, listener, observant spirit will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Delbert Dawson is survived by his wife, Sue Grimes Dawson; sons, Tony Dawson (Charity), Michael Dawson (Rikki) and Stacin Dawson (Brenda); daughter, Nikki Stolzer (Jeffrey); 9 grandchildren (Ashton, Bailey (Trey), Jason (Kayla), Zachary, Paislee, Shaylee, Zoe, Camden, Dawson); 7 great-grandchildren (Dawson, Ashlyn, Jaxsyn, Everly, Syre, Lowen, Griffin), and a brother, Rick Dawson (Pam).

Delbert is preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Dawson; parents, Earl and Ethelene Dawson and brother, Curtis Dawson.

The visitation will be held Friday, April 26, 2024 at 1pm at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. The funeral will follow the visitation at 2pm at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home. Following the service, the burial will be at Copperas Springs Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers; Jason Dawson, Zachary Dawson, Camden Dawson, Dawson Guill, Jeffrey Stolzer, George Passmore, Shawn French, Randy McPherson; honorary pallbearer, Dawson Stolzer.

Delbert's family appreciates all the love and asks for continual thoughts and prayers during this time.
